In One Piece, different people decide to become pirates for different reasons. Some because of the desire for money and fame, some because they want to satisfy the “passion” of fighting, there are also people who simply crave freedom and adventure.
However, what most of these people have in common is that they want to find the One Piece treasure.
It can be said, Gol D. Roger is the only one who has found the treasure of One Piece. More than 20 years since his death, this achievement has not been followed by anyone, although the ocean has no shortage of strong people, from the Seven Seas to the Four Emperors, anyone can “turn the sky and stir the water”.
However, no one has been able to find this treasure yet, despite a preliminary suggestion from the Pirate King.
Gol D. Roger’s original sailing journey
Before answering that burning question, let’s start with the Pirate King’s journey to find the treasure One Piece. Most people don’t realize Roger has actually circumnavigated the world twice.
His first trip was because of the desire for adventure, at that time the Pirate King didn’t really have any specific goals other than the desire to become a pirate. He didn’t even aim to become the Pirate King, because the title was something no one thought of at the time.
Roger simply did whatever he wanted, and then became one of the most powerful pirates in the world. However, when he reached the last island in New World, Lodestar Island, the Log Pose suddenly had problems.
Therefore, he and his crew conjectured that after Lodestar there was another island, which could not be reached by Log Pose alone. It can be said that the mysterious island is the place where the legendary treasure One Piece is located.
The Story of the Poneglyphs
On his first journey, Roger came across the Poneglyphs, though he didn’t give them a second thought. It was not until some time later that Roger realized these stones were the key to unlocking information about the Drum Century.
Among them, four red Poneglyph blocks are the most special, called Road Poneglyph and different from the usual blue blocks. Legend says that, when the four Road Poneglyphs are connected, it will reveal the location of the last island, Raftel Island.
The only obstacle is that very few people can read the ancient language written on the Poneglyph, so Roger has no one to support this part and he can’t reach the island hidden behind Lodestar Island.
Fateful encounter with the Whitebeard Pirates
And that’s when the fateful encounter with the Whitebeard Pirates occurred. After fighting for three days and three nights, both gangs ended up with a great party. At the time, Roger discussed the predicament regarding these stones to Whitebeard.
Unlike the other pirates, Whitebeard was never interested in One Piece, so he simply assumed it wasn’t real. However, there is one person in the Whitebeard crew who is very interested in Roger’s story, and that is Kozuki Oden.
To Roger’s surprise, Oden could easily read the contents of the Poneglyph. Excited by the prospect of an exciting adventure, the two decide to join forces to search for One Piece.
Because he had to collect all the Poneglyphs, Roger decided to start the journey from the beginning with Oden by his side. They even found all four Road Poneglyphs, of which two were taken from Wano Country and Zou Island.
About a year before his death, Roger and his crew finally found the treasure One Piece, they decided to name the last island Laugh Tale.
Why has no one succeeded in tracking Roger’s journey?
Based on what happened, there are two things that you need to do to find the One Piece treasure. Four Road Poneglyphs, and you can read what’s written on them. Finding the Poneglyph was already a daunting task, not to mention finding the Road Poneglyph.
Even so, powerful people like the Yonko will certainly have the resources and strength to find them. So what stopped them from finding the One Piece treasure and claiming the title of Pirate King that Roger left for posterity decades ago?
As it turned out, finding the Road Poenglyph might be possible with mere power and resources, but finding someone who could read that ancient language was impossible. If you can’t read it, the writing on it is just a story of the past, even Roger is trapped until he meets Oden.
There is a special group of people who can read this ancient script, the scholars of Ohara. Unfortunately, the World Government wanted to hide about the Void Century and they knew this information was recorded in Laugh Tale. The decision to slaughter Ohara was thus carried out, which is why no one could trace Roger’s great journey.
It was only when Nico Robin, the sole survivor of the Buster Call in Ohara, who could actually read these texts, appeared that the world had hope. That’s why she is hunted by both the World Government and the Pirates, because everyone understands that if Nico Robin is around, they can find One Piece together.
Fortunately for Robin, she is protected by one of the best of the Worst Generation, Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates.
