As reported by industry insiders, the Black Panther game is rumored to be a single-player open world title.
One of the biggest revelations at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend was the first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is set to conclude Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on May 11th. 11. Not long after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was announced, industry insider Jeff Grubb reported that a Black Panther video game was also in development, and most recently he revealed new details about the Black Panther video game. this project.
According to Grubb, the Black Panther game is currently known by the codename Project Rainier and it is being developed at Electronic Arts. An as-yet-unnamed new EA studio located in Seattle is working on the game, with a team led by Kevin Stephens who served as VP of Monolith Productions (the studio that produced the Middle-earth and working on a Wonder Woman game). The game is said to be a single-player, open-world experience, and it will be about “the player character becoming a new Black Panther”.
We don’t know exactly what that means at the moment, maybe players will play a new character who becomes the new Black Panther, but it is also possible that the game will be about T’Challa becoming Black Panther. Grubb says that this Black Panther game is still in the early stages of development, which is because the studio has only been out for about a year so far. It seems that the gaming community will not be able to know about the plot details of the game for the time being.
Considering the incredible popularity of the Black Panther movie and the Black Panther character, the fact that a video game based on the character is in development shouldn’t be too surprising. Black Panther’s first standalone film grossed a whopping $1.348 billion at the box office, making it one of the most financially successful superhero films of all time. The Black Panther character has also appeared in other superhero movies, most notably Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
What may come as a surprise to gamers is that EA will be in charge of working on the project. In recent years, EA has largely moved away from developing single-player gaming to instead focus on its sports lineup and creating massively multiplayer online games. Not only that, but EA recently mocked single-player games in a tweet that drew fierce criticism from the company. But while EA has mocked single-player games on its social media, it seems the company has seen the value in working on single-player projects, perhaps thanks to its success. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
If the Black Panther game is in development as rumored, it could be quite a while before the community sees official announcements, so gamers stay tuned for more information.
