The latest trailer for Mega Cat Studios’ pro wrestling RPG WrestleQuest introduces players to the game’s fighting style.
WrestleQuest is in development on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/WORLD
The latest trailer for the professional wrestling RPG WrestleQuest introduces players to the game’s fighting style with fun moves and a variety of wrestling-themed mechanics. Developer Mega Cat Studios unveiled the game earlier this year as an RPG that celebrates the sport of professional wrestling. The game saw the arrival of a host of old superstars including Macho Man Randy Savage and Andre the Giant among others. Now, Mega Cat is giving players an in-depth look at gameplay.
The minute-long trailer shows off the many options players will have for attacks in WrestleQuest. Players will not only be able to attack with attacks, but use items and weapons such as deck chairs to defeat their opponents. The game will feature a “hype meter” that builds up as players fight, allowing them to use special attacks and skills like transforming into a car. Players can also use “tag team combos” to deal significant damage to enemies with various attacks based on unique wrestling characters in the player’s party.
The trailer also introduces players to WrestleQuest’s unique “pinning” mechanic to defeat enemies with players being required to successfully take down their opponents. Once an opponent is downed, the player will have to time his input with a bar at the bottom of the screen to take down and defeat the enemy. Failing to take down an opponent will cause them to return to the fight, regaining some of their lost HP as well as reducing the player’s hype meter.
The final part of the trailer reveals some of the customizable elements in the wrestling game with the lead of boss battles. WrestleQuest players will be able to trim their own pre-match promotional videos as well as customize the team animations before the boss battle. WrestleQuest suggests that a successful promotion can increase a player’s hype meter during boss battles. The trailer also reveals some of the main bosses players will face throughout the game, showcasing the unique locations players will visit throughout WrestleQuest.
WrestleQuest seems to be a markedly different approach to the wrestling genre often dominated by sports games. 2K Sports’ WWE 2K serves as the main pro wrestling franchise in the modern gaming world with others like RetroMania Wrestling and RumbleVerse taking more of a casual approach. Other franchises like All Elite Wrestling have managed to enter the gaming world to limited success with AEW Fight Forever in development with an unspecified release date.
