In recent years, Vietnamese cinema has made significant progress. There are good works being produced, but besides that there are still many films that use sexually explicit scenes to attract audiences. However, when the core thing is that the quality of the content does not meet the requirements, these films all fail miserably.
Tea
The 2024 Tet movie season is described as a race of hot scenes. But while “Mai” achieved great success, “Tra” directed by Le Hoang, despite having two famous faces, Viet Huong and Truong Minh Quoc Thai, still fell into a miserable situation.
“Tra” explores the issue of adultery, telling the story of a middle-aged man who has an illicit relationship with a young girl, causing the wife to become extremely jealous due to jealousy. With such a topic, it is not strange that hot scenes appear. However, the film uses them indiscriminately, with no artistic intention to make viewers “hot-eyed”.
More noteworthy, the number of hot scenes that the audience had to witness was actually the number after being cut by 70%. Using hot scenes to attract viewers to theaters, but in the end, the revenue of “Tra” only reached 1.6 billion VND and of course suffered a heavy loss.
B4S: Before love
Sharing the same fate as “Tra” is “B4S: Before Love”. If the cast of “Tra” has two national actors, “B4S: Before Love” hopes to attract young audiences thanks to faces like Khanh Van, Ton Kinh Lam and Jun Vu.
Right from the promotion stage, “B4S: Before Love” used the “18+ guise” to attract attention. In the movie trailer, hot scenes abound. Not only that, sex is also present in the characters' dialogue with high frequency. When the movie premieres, for audiences who didn't go to theaters, the image they remember most is probably Jun Vu in sexy lingerie.
The revenue of “B4S: Before Love” only reached less than 4 billion VND. This is another evidence that Vietnamese audiences are now much more demanding with the quality of movies. Therefore, just using hot scenes as bait doesn't mean they will spend money in theaters.
Hotgirl squad
Currently, “Hotgirl Squad” is the movie receiving the most criticism. On the movie poster, the audience sees the appearance of the late People's Artist Hoang Dung. But in reality, he only appeared as a supporting role. Furthermore, no matter how good the late artist's acting was, it could not become a “lifesaver” to help the “Hotgirl Squad” escape from bottoming out in revenue.
According to statistics from Box Office Vietnam, “Hotgirl Squad” only achieved revenue of nearly 26 million VND. Last weekend's revenue of the film ranked 15th on the chart and this will almost certainly be the number one movie disaster in 2024.
“Hotgirl Squad” is about 6 girls Yi Yung, Hi Ne, Sung Mi, Belana, Keo Suvan and Saleha. They were raised by a man named Black Vo Dao to become assassins. After a mission, they got into trouble with boss Sakun. Thanks to the help of an assassin named Chien, they rose up against Sakun, freeing the children kidnapped by him.
After a few days in theaters, “Hotgirl Squad” received a lot of negative feedback. This work is considered a movie with a bad script, sloppy production and showing off as much skin as possible. Regardless of the circumstances, the female assassins wear skimpy clothes, causing the audience to question the thinking of the film producers.
