The “father” of Thanos himself confirmed this possibility in a recent interview.
Thanos is undeniably one of the MCU’s best villains. The giant caused the Avengers to work so hard for 10 years, culminating in the battles in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Thanos is just one way away from victory with the snap of his fingers. Humanity was saved when Iron Man sacrificed his life and used the infinity gauntlet to wipe out the mad Titan and his gang.
With the MCU ushering in the Multiverse era in Phase 4, many Marvel fans are starting to question whether Iron Man has destroyed all versions of Thanos?
Since the concept of the Multiverse was unknown at the time of Endgame, the answer is most likely no. This opens up the possibility that variants of Thanos could return to the MCU at any time.
Thanos creator, artist, and author Jim Starlin agreed with this view in a recent interview with Inverse:
“Well, I think he can hit the mind (answering why Thanos is such a resonant villain). He dares to ask questions that many of us only dare to think about. Thanos is also a very cool character.
I don’t think we saw the last of Thanos. Disney made a ton of money from Thanos and probably a lot more.”
Like Ultron (which has also faded), Thanos is currently mainly used by Disney on Multiverse-themed tours at Disneyland. However, the possibility of Thanos re-appearing in the film is still open.
It’s also worth noting that Thanos’ younger brother Eros (played by singer Harry Styles) was recently featured in an important MCU movie – Eternals. Eros only appears in a small part at the end of the film, and is always introduced as “Thanos’ brother”.
Also in the interview with Inverse, Starlin revealed future plans for the other characters she created:
“I heard Marvel might want to use some of the other characters I did. I think they’re running out of characters. Now that they have the multiverse, they have the ability to bring back Thanos.
With Thanos, we can open up the possibility (appearance) to other characters, people that Marvel has never used, such as the Blood Brothers.”
