A teacher in Japan has been arrested on suspicion of mixing chlorine bleach into students’ lunches at an elementary school.
Ayana Hanzawa, 24, was arrested on September 16 by the Higashi Iruma Police Station of the Saitama Prefectural Police on suspicion of forcibly obstructing business.
Hanzawa is accused of pouring bleach into a container of curry served to students at Mizutani Higashi elementary school in Fujimi City. The incident is believed to have happened between 11:15 a.m. and 12:20 a.m. local time on September 15.
A student in charge of serving food noticed a strange odor from the container and alerted the homeroom teacher. Thankfully no students have been reported to have consumed this food.
Hanzawa confessed to the charges against her during the investigation. “I ordered bleach that I bought at a pharmacy. I’m very sad that I wasn’t assigned as homeroom teacher of a class I was in charge of until March,” he said.
Similarly, an employee at a public school in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, was charged with business obstruction fraud in June for mixing human excrement into a school lunch side dish.
