Everyone knows that feeling. You’re watching a really raunchy cartoon. Your blood pressure is rising, you can feel your heart racing, your arms feel heavy, your palms are sweaty, and your mother is just waiting for the peak of her deterioration to open the door. And, in that moment, at the height of your excitement, you think to yourself: “You know what’s going to be good now… food.” Well, the PR team at Gushing Over Magical Girls knows that feeling all too well. As part of the anime’s promotional campaign, Gushing Over Magical Girls will receive a limited edition item sold at the Akiba Cultural District starting February 9, 2024. Here, fans spend Spend over ¥10,000 (~68 USD) to be entered into a lottery to win a signed print. Anyone who purchases merchandise over ¥6000 (~40 USD) will receive a free acrylic keychain. A pop-up cafe will also launch on February 14.
At Menu Cafe & Bar located in Sotokanda (Chiyoda), fans who come to the Gushing Over Magical Girls Pop-up cafe will be able to purchase limited edition drinks, main dishes and desserts from ¥880 ( ~6 USD) to 2200 Yen (~15 USD). When you visit the cafe, you’ll receive gifts like coasters, trading cards, and keychains.
The anime adaptation of Akihiro Ononaka’s Gushing Over Magical Girls is currently airing uncensored on Hidive and will have 13 episodes. The story is a beautiful tale of a young girl’s (Utena Hiiragi) search for self-acceptance, and how she comes to terms with her personality flaws and shortcomings. Or at least we can put it that way.
Remember kids, the media portrays their version of events. Gushing Over Magical Girls follows the main character, Utena Hiiragi, as she is forced to become an evil magical girl. But sometimes, all it takes is a slight push to plummet down the rabbit hole. During her first skirmish with the town’s resident magical girls, Utena realizes that she has some peculiar interests. Things that she quickly gets involved in when the chapter shows up.
