Naoya Matsumoto’s Monster #8 manga is getting an anime adaptation. This announcement was posted on the series’ official Twitter account, on August 1. Monster #8 was ranked 10th in this year’s AnimeJapan AniRank and can now join Oshi no Ko and Solo Leveling – 2 other titles to adapt. A teaser video has been revealed:

The manga began serialization in July 2020 in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump + and has since been compiled into seven volumes. Viz Media has licensed it in English in North America and 3 volumes have been published to date, with the 4th volume for an October 11, 2022 release date. Originally the series was licensed as Monster # 8 in English, but the name was later changed back to Kaiju No.8, although Manga Plus, where the series is available to read for free, retained the title.
Content Summary
Kafka hopes to one day keep a pact with her childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Self-Defense Forces and fight alongside her. But while she nullifies the kaiju as the Third Team captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change made Kafka eligible for the Self-Defense Forces, he decided to try his hand at the team again. There’s only one problem – he’s on the Self-Defense Force’s disable list under the codename Kaiju #8.
