It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Black Myth: Wukong is the most successful game of 2024, at least in terms of revenue.
Released on August 20, Black Myth: Wukong did not take too long to assert itself. In just the first two weeks, the game sold 18 million copies and surpassed the 20 million sales milestone in a month. And according to recent statistics, Black Myth: Wukong also made developer Game Science rise to the top of the most profitable companies on Steam.
Specifically, according to the latest statistics from Steam, Black Myth: Wukong has earned more than $1 billion in revenue on this platform.
Thereby bringing Game Science from being a relatively unknown name to the top 12 in Steam's top distributors rankings. Game Science's total revenue is on par with Rockstar Games and 2K, while just $100,000 short of parity with Activision and Bandai Namco. And it's all thanks to a single game, Black Myth: Wukong – a project released less than two months ago.
The revenue generated by the PlayStation 5 version of the game remains unclear, as Gamalytic only tracks Steam revenue, and Game Science also did not share any specifics about the sales split between PS5 and PC. However, Black Myth: Wukong was definitely a profitable project for Game Science when the cost of creating the game was estimated to be only about $42.4 million.
But this is certainly not the final number that Black Myth: Wukong can generate as the project's revenue will increase even more in 2025, when the DLC versions of the game will launch.
