Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has continued to develop the ninja world even further since Boruto was forced to leave due to Eida's Omniscience powers. With the Divine Tree warriors now posing the greatest threat, Boruto and Konoha find themselves forced to work together to take down these mysterious new enemies by any means necessary.
Now, the story is now exploring the true nature of the Divine Trees, and the latest chapter of the series may have revealed the key to defeating them, as one develops romantic feelings with Sarutobi Konohamaru.
As Jura and the Divine Tree seem to become stronger with the knowledge they have gathered, Shikamaru suggests that the time to defeat them may be before they reach adulthood. Because their state immediately after birth is essentially that of “innocent children” of “wild beasts”. And the chance to create a path to eliminate them is through Matsuri – who is revealed to actually have some romantic feelings for Konohamaru, even if she doesn't yet know what these feelings are.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 17 opens with a new mission to rescue Gaara and his adopted son Shinki, after both were attacked by the Divine Tree. Shinki serves as the power host for the newest member of this group of monsters, Ryu.
Konohamaru and Team 7 team up with Shinki's team for a new mission in Sunagakure. As they approached Matsuri and Ryu, Matsuri was a bit flustered, her face was red and she wasn't sure how she should answer Konohamaru at the moment. It was later revealed that Shikamaru had actually planned this in order to take advantage of Matsuri's confusion.
Know that each Divine Tree has an antagonistic relationship with a specific person, but that relationship differs between them. In Matsuri's case, Shikamaru insisted that it was Konohamaru, as she had feelings for him. Assuming she doesn't know what these emotions are, Shikamaru wants to take advantage of the fact that these Tree Gods are essentially young and naive to trick them, making it easier to defeat them. It was a ruthless strategy that the Eighth Hokage was willing to use to keep Konoha safe.
What does this romance mean for Konohamaru?
Matsuri's personality and connection to Konohamaru is certainly one of the most unique among the Gods. It's hard to gauge exactly what all of them are aiming for beyond wiping out Boruto, but for some reason, they have a direct connection to the host they originally spawned from.
In the case of Matsuri's feelings for Konohamaru, it means that Moegi also has these romantic feelings for Konohamaru. So this will be a difficult road for Konohamaru moving forward. Not only does he have to deal with Matsuri's romantic feelings to avoid her taking his life, but he also has to find a way to save Moegi.
Which means he may have to appease Matsuri for a long time before he has a chance to eliminate her and save Moegi. Then, when all of this is over, Konohamaru and Moegi need to somehow get over this when Konohamaru realizes that Moegi has similar feelings. But defeating the Divine Tree must be the top priority.
