A special behind-the-scenes clip for the vampire anime Call of the Night shows how the raw animation is turned into a polished final product.
The creators of the supernatural anime Call of the Night showcased part of the production in a behind-the-scenes clip.
This clip was introduced on the official Twitter page of EOTA, a subsidiary of Twin Engine (Vinland Saga, Golden Kamuy). The clip shows how the illustration transforms in post-processing, reducing the thickness of the lines and making the shadows appear smoother and more natural.
Vampire story in anime
The original Call of the Night manga series was written by Kotoyama and serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine starting August 2019. The LIDEN FILMS anime adaptation premiered in July 2022 and ran for 13 episodes. until September 2022. The plot of the series revolves around the relationship between a vampire girl named Nazuna Nanakusa and a human boy named Kou Yamori who wants to become a vampire himself. The two spend the night together, and Ko excitedly wakes up to discover a bite mark on her neck. However, in this universe, a person cannot turn into a vampire just by being bitten.
In a unique twist on traditional vampire mythology, a human can only be transformed if they are bitten by the vampire they love. Upon learning of this, Kou’s new life goal is to fall in love with Nazuna, allowing him to turn into a vampire and leave behind a dull, miserable human life. However, as he gets closer to Nazuna, a childhood friend named Anko Uguisu re-enters his life. Uguisu, who works as a Private Detective specializing in investigating cases involving vampires, despises them and has the goal of eliminating the entire species.
Tomoyuki Itamura (The Case Study of Vanitas) is directing Call of the Night along with Director Tetsuya Miyanishi. Michiko Yokote (Gintama, RIN-NE) wrote the script. Norihiko Yokomatsu (Naruto Shippuden) served as the Art Director of the series, while Haruka Sagawa designed the characters. Yoshiaki Dewa (Kino’s Journey – The Beautiful World) is composing the music for the series. Gen Sato (Dr. Stone) and Sora Amamiya (Seven Deadly Sins) play Kou Yamori and Nazuna Nanakusa, respectively. Miyuki Sawashiro (Lupine III) as Anko Uguisu.
