A village in India recently held a wedding for frogs to pray for rain. It is known that this is an extremely strange religious belief.
Sputnik (Russia) has just reported that on 197, people in the city of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh state, held a special wedding ceremony for two frogs according to local custom. This is believed to please the god Indra – the Hindu god of rain and he will bring rains to the area, which is experiencing a severe drought.
Mr. Ramakant Verma, one of the host of the ceremony shared with reporters that:
“Last week, we performed Hawan Pujan – the Hindu fire ritual. Now, we are celebrating a frog couple’s wedding. Hopefully the gods will give us a rain.”
Those present at the frog’s wedding were optimistic that the ceremony would work and bring rains to soothe the scorching summer heat.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the state of Uttar Pradesh has very low rainfall. From the beginning of June until now, the recorded rainfall is less than 80mm, 65% lower than the expected 220mm.
I don’t know if the other frog couple will bring rain to help the people, but there is actually another funny situation, that is in 2019, another frog couple was also “married” with to pray for rain. As a result, it actually rained, even heavy and heavy rain.
Even this area has suffered the heaviest rains in 13 years, leading to raging floods. The heavy rain lasted so long that people were forced to let the other two frogs “divorce”.
