Sonoda shared the reason is because she has not been feeling good in health recently. However, she also reassured fans that the condition is not too serious and hopes to recover in a few months. During treatment and rest, she expressed her desire to continue drawing to maintain the creative flow of her work.
The manga tells the touching story of Maruru, a cat who once lived a life of pampering but lost his way after chasing a flock of sparrows. In his journey to regain his life, Maruru meets Hachi, a tough stray cat who initially does not want to accept Maruru's presence in his territory. But when Maruru helps Hachi escape a difficult situation, the two decide to team up and face the harsh life on the streets together.
Cat Companions Maruru and Hachi debuted on Kodansha's Comic Days website on December 24, 2021. The series has attracted attention for its emotional plot and cute visuals. The sixth volume of the manga was just released by Kodansha last December. Internationally, Seven Seas Entertainment published the manga in English, with the second volume also released in December.
