My Hero Academia is about to shock people with Deku’s horrific injury

The third season of My Hero Academia is going through its most difficult phase. The war against Shigaraki continues to drag on with no end in sight. The latest episode even ends on a rather shocking cliffhanger as remnants of the previous users urge Deku to abandon One For All to help him reach Shigaraki.

However, losing One For All isn’t even the worst that awaits Deku, as the final season of My Hero Academia inches closer and closer to an even more terrible fate for its hero. Unfortunately, anime censorship will likely ruin the series’ biggest upcoming twist.

Anime My Hero Academia may censor Deku’s upcoming major trauma scene

The final season of My Hero Academia has officially aired, and the anime looks more exciting and dramatic than ever. There’s no doubt that Studio Bones pulled out all the stops to bring a grand finale to author Kohei Horikoshi’s decade-long series.

However, the anime may soon disappoint fans by cutting out Deku’s upcoming serious injury scene, and frankly, they may have no other choice.

The latest episode of My Hero Academia adapts the manga up to chapter 413, meaning fans will soon see Deku lose both of his arms due to his Decay ability. The wound in question appeared in chapter 418 of the manga, when Deku subconsciously tried to hug Tenko (childhood Shigaraki). At that moment, Decay’s ability broke out, causing serious injuries, causing Deku’s arms to completely disintegrate up to the elbows.

Chapter 419 then reveals the full story, a rather gruesome and bloody scene, and would probably be too much for the My Hero Academia anime to faithfully adapt, especially given the series’ long history of censorship. In this case, however, the question is whether the changes will have such an impact.

My Hero Academia’s history of censorship is hard to ignore

Admittedly, the My Hero Academia anime did a pretty good job of adapting Bakugo’s death in Season 7 and making it as realistic as possible. However, it’s hard to forget the countless censorships during the anime’s nine years of airing.

Whether it’s the scene where Re-Destro cuts off his leg, or the horrifying story of Tenko, or the countless gruesome battles with Shigaraki throughout the series, the My Hero Academia anime usually steers clear of gore, and that could soon happen again for Deku.

Like the case of Re-Destro’s severed legs, Deku’s limb injuries will most likely be censored: either placed out of frame, or simply cut more neatly and with less blood, similar to the scene where Shigaraki lost his finger to Re-Destro. However, fans still have some time to prepare themselves before this tragic moment is included in the anime.

The final season of My Hero Academia is currently adapting about three to four chapters per episode, and with the latest episode ending at chapter 413, the full story of Tenko and Deku’s loss of his arm will likely come out next week as well.

It’s hard to say which direction Bones will go for the scene with Deku’s arm, but fans can only hope the episode will stay true to the manga’s spirit at least once before the anime series ends.
