My Hero Academia: Two Heroes has a release date on Crunchyroll

Something exciting awaits My Hero Academia enthusiasts as the series prepares to return to its cinematic debut in North America with the re-release of its first feature film forthcoming.

In an announcement from Crunchyroll, the animated film My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, which originally premiered in 2018, will soon be streaming. It will officially begin streaming on August 17 at 5pm Pacific Time. This feature marks the return of director Kenji Nagasaki, along with Yosuke Kuroda as the script writer and Yoshihiko Umakoshi, the character designer in this BONES production.

My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, a 2018 Japanese superhero anime film, revolves around an original story highlighting beloved characters from the manga series My Hero Academia written by Kōhei Horikoshi. The voice cast includes Daiki Yamashita, Kenta Miyake, Mirai Shida, Katsuhisa Namase, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Ayane Sakura, Kaito Ishikawa, Yuki Kaji, Marina Inoue, Toshiki Masuda, Ryō Hirohashi, Tasuku Hatanaka, Kei Shindō, and Rikiya Koyama.

The film occupies a narrative space between the Final Exams and the manga’s Camp in the Forest story arc. Here, Izuku Midoriya/Deku, along with Toshinori Yagi/All Might, journey to I-Island to visit an old friend. However, the quiet is broken when the villains launch an attack on the artificially moved island. Official movie synopsis: “Deku and his friends go on a daring rescue operation when bad guys break into the I-Expo – the world’s premier hero item exhibition. All Might is trapped by their sinister plan, and his best hope of saving everyone lies with a new generation of heroes.”

My Hero Academia: Two Heroes continues the franchise’s success

The film debuted in North American theaters on September 25, 2018, with $2.6 million, making it Funimation’s third highest-grossing film after Your Name. The film, despite having a limited release, delivered a better per-theater than all the other top films at the time. It ended its theatrical run with $5.8 million, and became the tenth highest-grossing animated film in the United States and Canada at the time.

Following its success, two subsequent films, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising and My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission, were released in 2019 and 2021 respectively. An untitled fourth film is currently available. is being developed.
