There are countless reasons why games have to stop developing suddenly.
Many of them mainly stem from dismal sales, and developers do not have enough financial resources or patience to pursue their projects. But sometimes, there are also games that are suddenly interrupted for relatively harsh reasons, even though they are still working well.
For example, the case of Fortune's Run – a game that is very popular on Steam at the moment.
Belonging to the FPS genre, Fortune's Run is highly rated and considered a perfect combination of Doom and Half-Life. With 92% positive reviews on Steam, Fortune's Run is doing very well. First appearing on Steam in September 2023, since then, Fortune's Run has received many new updates and expansions, most recently on January 15. But accompanying that update was a bitter announcement from independent developer Dizzie.
Specifically, Dizzie believes that Fortune's Run will temporarily stop operating and updating for a long time to come. The reason is because Dizzie has been sentenced to prison and will have to serve it for the next three years. He also admitted that he lived a very different life before becoming a game developer and that the case had lasted for the past 5 years and that he had hurt many people in the past. He also emphasized that he regrets this when Fortune's Run itself is doing very well and helps this developer no longer have financial difficulties.
Finally, this developer asks gamers to be patient as Fortune's Run is not completely “dead”. Instead, Dizzie pledged that immediately after being released from prison, he would continue to work on and develop this project further. 3 years – that's how long gamers will have to wait during this period.
