What’s interesting about this sudden crossover with Tsugumi Ohba’s horror manga Death Note is that it completely inverts Komi’s adorable premise. The story is built over many chapters and episodes as Komi’s serious attempt to make friends after many years of shyness. The plot surrounding her having been planning to destroy her classmates the whole time shows that she is just as smart as Light Yagami in hiding her true feelings and intentions.
This fan art shows an alternate reality where Komi may see her classmates as nuisances that she wants to get rid of because they are all obsessed with her, because so she came up with a plot and used Tadano to eliminate them once and for all. It’s a clever twist on what Komi Can’t Communicate is about, and it’s incredibly funny to see Komi’s stern face as she reveals the Death Note to the crowd.
How will Komi’s friends die from the Death Note?
Of course, it is highly unlikely that each of Komi’s “friends” would fall from a simple heart attack as the rules in the book state if the writer did not provide a method. Some possible causes of death that Komi could write about could include taking advantage of Najimi’s popularity with others and a fate worse than death for Ren Yamai due to his obsession her towards Komi’s feelings. Each student has a myriad of traits that exaggerate their personalities, so finding ironic ways for them to cope with death wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. The only exceptions that Komi can forgive are Tadano and Manbagi because they bond with her so much that they become her romantic lover and best friend respectively.
Komi’s quest to find her 100 friends certainly won’t produce a surprise Death Note at the end of the story because tipping that scale would have a serious impact on Komi’s true motives. Still, it’s a funny look at a What If scenario. Komi cannot communicate is a wholesome and sweet series, so Turbulent_Set8884’s Death Note crossover gives the show a fun twist that will please Komi fans who want a little dark humor.
