The May issue of Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine announced on Thursday that Haruto Umezawa will launch a new manga titled “Menace” in the magazine's upcoming issue on May 2.
The manga revolves around Teruya, a rebellious teenager caught up in gang wars, who decides to leave his gang for his beloved Aimi. As part of leaving the gang, he endured a grueling “retirement ritual” where he was brutally beaten by his former teammates.
After the ordeal, he woke up to find himself suffering from amnesia, without even his own identity. In this confused state, he meets a strange alien creature.
Umezawa's manga writing journey began with the publication of the one-shot manga “Hareluya” in Shueisha's Shonen Jump Summer Special magazine in 1991. The success of this one-shot led to it being serialized in 1991. 1992 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, running for a total of 10 chapters.
After that, Umezawa went on to create “HARELUYA II BØY” in the same year. This manga reimagined the original story and was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump until 1999, consisting of 33 volumes.
The popularity of “HARELUYA II BØY” also paved the way for the 1997 anime television adaptation, which was licensed by Sentai Filmworks in 2021 and streamed on HIDIVE.
