Meiō no Zakuro focuses on the dark fantasy world of a high school student after his encounter with the underworld.
Kodoani.com – Manga author Aya Kanno has just released a new series called Meiō no Zakuro (Underworld Pomegranate) on Mondays, released biweekly on Akita Shoten's Champion Cross manga website.
The story revolves around high school student Seiji, who has had the misfortune of falling down a well and entering the underworld since he was a child, resulting in him being cursed with bad luck. Seiji is always in danger, scaring everyone around him, except for his childhood friend, Haru. One day, an item Seiji brought back from the underworld begins to function, pushing his life into strange and unpredictable situations.
Aya Kanno is best known for her manga Otomen and Requiem of the Rose King. Requiem of the Rose King was first published in Akita Shoten's Monthly Princess magazine in October 2013 and ended in January 2022. The manga was released in English by Viz Media and inspired a television anime series, which premiered in January 2022.
Additionally, Kanno also launched the spin-off manga Requiem of the Rose King: The Queen and the Rose Knight in March 2022 and ended it in September 2023. Akita Shoten released the third and final volume of the manga in November 2023.
