Before the announcement from CD Projekt Red that the new Witcher game would run on Unreal Engine 5, fans were worried about exclusivity.
Kodoani.com – CD Projekt Red recently announced that a game Witcher new under development. However, with the company starting a partnership with Epic Games, some fans are worried about the possibility that the new Witcher title will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store.
It has also been announced that the new title will use the Unreal Engine 5, instead of CD Projekt Red’s REDengine, used for previous Witcher releases. This comes as a surprise when CD Projekt Red has stuck with REDengine, especially with Cyberpunk 2077.
Ever since a new Witcher game was announced, fans have had a lot of questions. On Twitter, CD Projekt Red’s global PR director, Radek Grabowski, posted about the long-term cooperation plan between the game developer and Epic Games. This has some worried that part of this partnership will include creating the next Witcher game exclusively for Epic’s own store, the Epic Game Store. To these concerns, The Witcher’s official Twitter page responded, stating that there are no plans to make the next Witcher game exclusive to any store.

Besides finding out what engine the game will run on, another definite piece of information that has been revealed at the time of writing is who is working on the project. Jason Slama will lead the development of the new game. Slama previously worked as a director on her own title Gwent.
The only other information that fans have at the moment is the teaser image posted with the announcement. The image shows a Witcher medallion lying on the snow. Fans were quick to start speculating which Witcher school the medal belonged to, with some suggesting it could be from a new school. CD Projekt Red has in fact confirmed that Lynx’s school herald medal. Considering that Lynx’s school is less well known than the established schools, it is likely that the new story will stray even further from the original, popular novel by Andrzej Sapkowski.
The upcoming Witcher game is currently in development.
