This woman’s menu repeats all week with toast, kidney beans, bell peppers, salmon, sweet corn and pasta, cooked once and reheated every day.
Rising prices in recent days have forced many people to start a “frugal diet” to be able to manage their expenses. While the Vietnamese online community is still buzzing about the recipes “5,000 VND for 4 people but still full of nutrients, the online community in the UK is no exception.
Recently, a woman in the UK suddenly became “viral” on Tiktok when she revealed the cost of eating and drinking during the price storm: only about 1 dollar per day.
Kathryn Leech, a woman originally from Manchester, has recorded a week living on just 1 pound ($1.09) a day and shares those videos on her social media accounts.
“With the current cost of living crisis and inflation continuing to rise, a lot of people are cutting costs to cover themselves,” Leech said. While it may be possible for many people, the amount of gain is not so important. The real problem is that wages are not increasing at the same rate as the average cost of living.”
So, the 26-year-old decided to challenge herself to live on a meager budget for a week to see if it was really too hard, and to experience what some people must. to do in a time of rising prices like today.
Leech shared, she mainly buys cooking ingredients at Aldi – a “super thrifty” supermarket system to cut costs as much as possible.
“I ate the same dish for seven days,” she said. “The ingredients included toast, kidney beans, bell peppers, salmon, sweet corn and pasta.”
The hardest thing, according to Leech, was that she had to eat the same dish at every meal.
“It’s not healthy because I can’t get enough nutrients with just that. I certainly don’t get enough calories either.” Leech recalled.
However, because she cooks in large quantities and only needs to be reheated each meal, she can also save quite a bit of cooking time.
After posting, Leech’s video received 685,800 views. However, most of the comments criticized and opposed her “extreme” savings policy.
Many TikTok users are not afraid to give their personal views on videos:
“Can’t eat this three times a day for a week like that. No meat, no main food, no vitamins or protein.”
“The point is…you don’t have to.”
Or as there are people who agree:
“Very helpful, this menu can be applied well! Sometimes we need a week of savings to get through a rough patch!”
