Warning: Contains spoilers for SBS Episode #109 of One Piece.
Summary
Eiichiro Oda may have revealed that Luffy's mother is the former Queen of Amazon Lily, Toritoma, in SBS One Piece Volume #109. Toritoma's features resemble Luffy's, and her age makes her a strong candidate for being Luffy's mother. This theory is supported by many hints in the manga, but there are still inconsistencies, such as Kuja only giving birth to daughters.
One of the longest lasting mysteries in A piece is the identity of Luffy's mother, something fans have been trying to deduce for decades. However, Eiichiro Oda may have accidentally revealed Luffy's mother through the latest SBS of One Piece, and that makes sense on many levels.
In the SBS segment of One Piece Episode #109, Eiichiro Oda revealed a new character in the form of The former queen of Amazon Lily named Toritoma, who may be Luffy's mother. Toritoma is revealed to be the ruler of Amazon Lily after Shakky and before Boa Hancock, making her the perfect age to be Luffy's mother and Dragon's former love interest.
Oda also surprised fans by giving them an illustration of Queen Toritoma, who has quite similar features to Luffy in terms of eye shape, nose, and smile. Considering Luffy doesn't look like Dragon or Garp, it makes sense that he would look like his mother, making Toritoma the perfect candidate in that regard. could also explain why Kuma sent Luffy to Amazon Lily in the time skip.
One Piece reveals Luffy's mother is the Queen of Amazon Lily
Queen Toritoma is perfect for the role of Dragon's ex-lover.
Interestingly, in the SBS, Oda also revealed that Toritoma was one of the queens who died from the mysterious lovesickness that plagued Kuja. This would make perfect sense if the man Toritoma fell in love with was Dragon. The Queens of Amazon Lily are known to fall in love with powerful or special men, as seen with Shakky and Rayleigh, as well as Boa Hancock and Luffy. Even Gloriosa is suspected to have fallen in love with Rocks D. Xebec, considering the fact that Gloriosa was once a member of the Rocks Pirates.
It would also make sense that Toritoma would end up miserable, as Dragon's top priority has always been the Revolutionary Army. It's also possible that Dragon decided to distance himself from Luffy's mother to protect her like he did with Luffy, thus breaking her heart and causing her to die of love.
More hints point to a connection between Luffy and Amazon Lily
Another important piece of evidence that Luffy's mother might be the former queen can be seen in chapter #522 when Gloriosa or Elder Nyon quoted a saying from the South China Sea anddescribe love as a storm. Again, this could be a subtle hint about Queen Toritoma's relationship with Dragon, a man from the East Blue who is famous for his ability to control the weather, including creating storms and hurricanes.
There is also the matter of Kuma sending Luffy to Amazon Lily during the time skip, which has yet to be explained otherwise. Kuma chose each of the Straw Hats' locations carefully, sending each one to where they could grow and benefit the most, which may be true even for Luffy. As seen in chapter #1101, Kuma has had his eye on Luffy for quite some time and may have known that Luffy's mother was the former queen, which is why he decided to send Luffy to Amazon Lily.
Luffy's mother being a former Queen also makes sense considering Luffy's Conqueror's Haki. While Dragon himself is quite a badass character, the Kuja are known to choose their queens from the strongest warriors on the island, which means it's very possible that Toritoma also possesses powerful Conqueror's Haki like Hancock.
Conqueror's Haki has not been proven to be hereditary but parents do play a role in the personality traits a person inherits so it may have at least some influence in the matter.
Ultimately, there is only one simple but undeniable argument that Oda made an effort to draw Toritoma. After all, Oda didn't even draw Zoro's parents when explaining Zoro's family tree and connection to Wano, which suggests that there must have been some reason why he decided to reveal Toritoma's appearance.
However, there are still quite a few holes in this theory, the biggest being that it is said that Kuja only gave birth to girls. There is also the issue of an old, contradictory comment from Oda where he claimed that Luffy's mother was still alive, although it is possible that he has changed his mind on the matter since then.
However, it remains doubtful whether A piece will ever be revealed clearly Luffy's Motherespecially with Oda's idea that mothers represent the complete opposite of adventure. However, Oda may have just given fans enough clues to piece together her identity on their own.
