Mobile Suit Gundam has had many apparel and lifestyle collaborations, most of which tie into the original series. Now, “First Gundam” and a recent hit movie will be part of a new apparel line, releasing both in Japan and overseas.
A collaboration between Graniph and Strict-G, the new Gundam clothing line, seen below, will be hitting Japanese retailers soon. Included in the collection is a shirt featuring a rather infamous scene from the original anime. Out in just a few weeks, these clothing items sadly have a clause in how international fans can claim them.

The highest-grossing film ever in the Mobile Suit Gundam anime series will be released on a major streaming platform after breaking box office records in 2024.
Original “First Gundam” and SEED Freedom adorn Strict-G’s new clothing line
Produced by Graniph and Strict-G, the latter is Bandai’s Gundam lifestyle and apparel brand, an upcoming line of clothing and other products that combines both the first and latest entries in the mecha series. In the case of the new hit Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, that means a number of new T-shirts based on the series. In the case of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, also known as First Gundam, T-shirts, hoodies, hats, socks, bags, and mugs will all be included in the collection. In fact, one of the T-shirts recreates the infamous and iconic “Bright Slap” that happens to protagonist Amuro Ray.
The new Gundam-themed merchandise will hit stores on August 20, 2024. Both Graniph and Strict-G have opened online pre-orders for the products, ensuring that fans can pick up their items before the official release date. Sadly, this will be much more difficult for those outside of Japan. While the clothing and other merchandise will indeed be available to international fans after the release on the 20th, pre-orders will only be available for domestic purchases in Japan. As such, Gundam enthusiasts will have to wait their turn to get their hands on this anime franchise.

The latest Gundam film is the most financially successful film in the series' history.
First released in 2002, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED marks the beginning of the Cosmic Era timeline. This new continuity is separate from any previous universes, including the classic “Universal Century” timeline. It was followed two years later by Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, which is now 20 years old. 2024 also marks the release of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, which is finally a continuation of the Cosmic Era story. Well received by fans and critics, the film grossed over $32 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing Gundam film of all time. Both the success of the film and the recent animated television series Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury are considered key to the series’ record-breaking box office performance this year.
The original Mobile Suit Gundam anime is now 45 years old, having been released in 1979. It started the Universal Century timeline, spawning both a major franchise in its own right and the larger Real Robot mecha anime genre. To this day, the franchise is one of the most popular in Japan, and is compared to franchises from the West like Star Wars. Both the Universal Century and Cosmic Era timelines remain the most popular and revisited parts of the franchise's history, whether through new film and anime projects, video games, or various Gunpla plastic model kits.
