In China, delivery work has become a popular choice for many unemployed and middle-aged people looking for work. However, the job comes with a lot of pressure. Recently, a delivery man in Hangzhou (China), in his 50s, known as the “king of singles” because he often received the most orders, passed away after working 16 to 18 hours a day.
At around 9pm on September 5th, in the Qiansang area, Yuhang District, Hangzhou City (Zhejiang Province, China), after delivering an order, this man lay down to rest on his electric motorbike as usual. However, at around 1am on September 6th, people discovered that he was still lying motionless.
Several other shippers nearby saw this and came closer to shake him, but he did not wake up. They quickly reported it to the area management, and also called the police and an ambulance. Although he was taken to the emergency room, the man did not survive. The incident was recorded by a witness and posted on social media, attracting the attention of the Chinese public.
According to witnesses, the man worked for various food delivery platforms to earn extra income. He often worked late into the night, sometimes even sleeping under a bridge. Whenever a new order was announced, he would immediately get up and start working.
“He is over 50 years old, the breadwinner of the family, and works hard every day to earn money,” said an eyewitness. He also shared that he rarely had a long conversation with the man because he was always busy. “He works very hard, almost every day he earns more than 500 yuan (about 1.6 million VND),” said the person.
A social media user added that this delivery man is over 50 years old and is the breadwinner of the family: “To take care of his family, he works day and night, running orders from morning to night to earn money.”
China's economy is facing many difficulties, causing unemployment to increase. This has forced many people, including middle-aged people, to seek low-paying jobs with harsh working conditions such as delivery. The tragic incident of the shipper in Hangzhou once again sounded the alarm about the work pressure and difficult life of workers.
