Before Black Myth: Wukong was released, Palworld deserved to be considered a phenomenon in the world gaming village in 2024.
In fact, the game is definitely the most notable new survival game of the year, with Palworld peaking at 2.1 million concurrent players on Steam alone. From a small indie developer, Palworld’s success has given Pocketpair the budget to develop the game, aiming for a long-term future.
Recently, there have been many rumors that Palworld will soon switch to a completely free form for players, replacing the price of nearly 400,000 VND that gamers will have to pay to own it at the present time.
This will probably be a huge advantage for Pocketpair as they can earn more money from selling microtransactions like many other free online games while attracting more new gamers. In addition, it is also good news for gamers, especially those who have never experienced Palworld before, to have an easier access to the game. The only disappointment is probably only for those who have spent money to buy Palworld before.
But that scenario didn't happen. The developer Pocketpair itself has officially denied these rumors. The reason given is quite simple. Pocketpair itself has considered turning Palworld into a live, free-to-play service game like PUBG or Fall Guys, but this is a leap that Pocketpair predicts will be difficult to maintain when it will require too much effort to adjust the game at this time. More importantly, the developer believes that this is not what fans want, especially since that prospect forces them to adjust and find new ways to “suck blood” from players.
Currently, Palworld is planning for DLC and new skins. However, there is still some good news: Pocketpair is still open about releasing Palworld for free, and promises to notify gamers as soon as that happens.
