Many events in Akira Toriyama's personal life were expressed in his works. Dragon Ball is no exception. The author's own appearance as a character in the story and his personality reflected in Piccolo are evidence of this.
However, one thing that few people know is that Akira Toriyama was inspired by the love of his life – his wife, to change a key detail in the development of Bulma's character in Dragon Ball Super. .
Akira Toriyama married Yoshimi Kato in 1982, before he created Dragon Ball. He first met her in the editorial magazine Weekly Shonen Jump, as Yoshimi Kato was also a mangaka, signed under the pen name Nachi Mikami.
According to Alfa Beta's assessment, after the success of Dragon Ball, Yoshimi Kato stopped making manga and focused on taking care of finances, as well as doing all administrative work for her husband. Furthermore, she had to combine that duty with her responsibilities as a mother.
As we see in the image below, Yoshimi Kato has short hair, this feature helped Akira Toriyama create a new hairstyle for the character Bulma in Dragon Ball Super.
The hair that Akira Toriyama's wife has in the picture is clearly very similar to Bulma's hair that appeared throughout Dragon Ball Super and currently in Dragon Ball Daima.
Those of us who have watched Bulma's character development know that she started out with long straight hair, later made it curly, then cut it a bit until she achieved the short version This.
In an old interview that Akira Toriyama provided to Bouken Special, the mangaka was asked why Bulma's hair was cut, and the author replied: “It shows that three years have passed and also because I like the girl with short hair”.
