Kodoani.com – Kodansha's Comic Days app has just published the manga's 52nd chapter Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle (Gunnm: Kasei Senki) by Yukito Kishiro, marking the return of the series after nearly a year since the latest chapter on March 12, 2024. This is a continuation worth waiting for as Kishiro has completed chapters 47 to 51 early last year, and now he has brought the story one step closer to its conclusion.
In November last year, Kishiro announced that he had completed the 56th and final chapter of Mars Chronicle. He also revealed that the story will continue under a new title, with a completely new series scheduled to premiere later this year, opening up many expectations for fans of the series.
Mars Chronicle launched in Kodansha's Evening magazine in April 2014 and moved to the Comic Days app after Evening ceased publication in 2023.
In this installment, “machine angel” Gally (Alita in the English translation) returns to Mars, confronts her past, and discovers her origins. The series published its 10th volume in Japan in April 2024 and will be published in English by Kodansha USA on February 18, 2025.
Previously, Battle Angel Alita built a rich universe with many side stories and sequels such as Ashen Victor (1995-1996) and Battle Angel Alita: Last Order (2001). The original manga, published from 1990 to 1995 in Shueisha's Business Jump, has become a monument in the cyberpunk genre and received warm reception from readers worldwide.
Not only stopping at the manga, Battle Angel Alita also inspired a hit live-action movie produced by James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez. The film debuted in February 2019 and was a huge success, cementing Alita's position as a pop culture icon.
With the Mars Chronicle coming to an end and the promise of a new series, Gally's journey continues to captivate the hearts of fans around the world.
