Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange are the most popular anime coming out in Japan this fall.
According to Anime News Network, a report from Japanese marketing research firm Video Research has revealed Frieren and Firefighter Daigo as the most-watched movies coming out in the week of September 25 to October 1. Data was collected from the Kanto region of Japan, which formed the estimated viewership numbers based on a survey of households in the region. Firefighter Daigo attracted about 3.8% of all Japanese households, narrowly beating long-running series One Piece and Doremon to take fifth place on the chart. Frieren’s two-hour special in particular was even more successful, with an estimated 6.8% of all Japanese households watching and placing it in third place – right behind Detective Conan and Sazae-san, standing at 6.9%. and 7.9% respectively.
The debuts of Frieren and Firefighter Daigo were surprisingly impressive, though it remains to be seen how the two will compare to some of the shows that have yet to come out at the time. This includes anime adaptations for several popular series, such as The Apothecary Diaries, Shy, and A Girl & Her Guard Dog. The fall slate also includes the return of hugely popular anime from previous seasons, including Dr. Stone, The Rising of the Shield Hero and Goblin Slayer.
Frieren and firefighter Daigo topped the rankings

Firefighter Daigo: The Orange Rescuer is a sequel to mangaka Masahito Soda’s 1995 Firefighter manga! Daigo of Fire Company M. The series focuses on aspiring firefighters Daigo Toake, Shun Onoda, and Yuki Nakamura, who all hope to one day join a special rescue team called Orange.
