Galactic Republic Studio has released the first trailer for its fan-made anime adaptation of Naruto: The Whorl Inside the Spiral, the official one-volume manga story about the Yondaime Hokage.
The non-profit animation studio released the new Naruto trailer on YouTube and on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). It is based on the 2023 independent manga series of the same name, written and illustrated by Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto. The official prequel story details Minato Namikaze’s struggles in developing the Rasengan technique, as well as his romance with Kushina Uzumaki. As teased in the fan trailer, Naruto: The Whorl Inside the Spiral also delves into the history of the Uzumaki Clan and its connection to the Nine-Tails.

Naruto: The Whorl Inside the Spiral was decided by fans in a global NARUTOP99 fan poll, where nearly 800,000 voters wanted to see an original manga story about Naruto Uzumaki’s father. Interestingly, nearly 200,000 fans voted for Naruto himself in the popularity poll, even though the entire series revolves around him. That’s enough to put the meathead ninja in 6th place.
Naruto fans are confused by the status of the four anniversary episodes
While Naruto fans are impressed with Galactic Republic’s efforts in adapting the Minato story, they are also taking this opportunity to express their displeasure with the current state of the anime series. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Naruto anime series, four new episodes set in the original timeline were scheduled to air last September. Studio Pierrot delayed the release of the anime specials to “improve the quality” of the episodes; however, there is no indication when the anniversary special will air or if there are still plans to air it.

The last major Naruto project that Pierrot worked on, excluding the anniversary special, was Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. The sequel spans from 2017 to 2023, focusing on the early years of Naruto’s son, Boruto Uzumaki. The Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga takes place three years after the original and is currently ongoing.
The Naruto anime series is currently available on streaming platforms including Crunchyroll and Hulu. Viz Media handles English distribution of the manga.
