Gearbox Entertainment announced that Eidos Shanghai is now Gearbox Shanghai. This is Gearbox’s first expansion to Asia, a key market in the company’s long-term growth strategy.
Gigi Ning, who once led Eidos Shanghai, will continue to run the studio as General Manager. Yoon Im, President of Gearbox Publishing San Francisco commented: “China is a fertile land, a convergence of talents in the industry and I believe that Gearbox Studio Shanghai has an international development vision. With this addition, we significantly increase our access to players in the Chinese market and will work directly with local studios.”
Gearbox Shanghai was established.
Eidos Shanghai was formerly the studio of Eidos-Montreal, whose parent company is CDE Entertainment. CDE Entertainment is one of 12 subsidiaries of Embracer Group. The group was acquired along with Square Enix Montreal and Crystal Dynamics in a $300 million deal.
Embracer Group acquired Gearbox entertainment company including Gearbox software in February 2021 for $1.3 billion. Gearbox Entertainment has announced the acquisition of Lost Boys Interactive. The deal value was not disclosed. The two companies previously worked together on Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a spinoff of Borderlands.
Lost Boys Interactive was founded in 2017 and has been involved in various projects until today. The company has developed its own games to date and has been involved in the development of titles such as Call of Duty and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Following the acquisition, Lost Boys Interactive will continue to operate independently, but the priority will be to contribute to future Gearbox games as a subsidiary. As part of the agreement, Shaun Nivens, CEO of Lost Boys Interactive, reports developments related to his company’s work to Gearbox Software President Steve Jones.
Shaun Nivens released a statement: “We founded Lost Boys with the dream of creating products that are recognized and loved globally. We’re super excited to join Gearbox and continue to do what’s best, creating great games and inspiring others.” Lost Boys currently has 220 employees. Together with these employees, Gearbox has a total of 1300 people.
Gearbox was acquired by Embracer Group in early 2021 in a deal worth $1.3 billion. Eidos Shanghai was founded in 2008 to handle outsourcing for Eidos Western development studios.
