God of War Ragnarok took home the title of Game of the Year on the PlayStation Blog as Sony revealed the full list of winners in various categories.
God of War Ragnarok is available now on PS4 and PS5.
Although God of War Ragnarok didn’t win the top honor at The Game Awards 2022, the title did win the Game of the Year award on the PlayStation Blog. The event hosts a series of its own awards every year for users to vote for their favorite games. Similar to most year-end awards ceremonies, the game can win in different categories like graphics, music, and story.
The PlayStation Blog doesn’t just recognize one game in each category and instead awards platinum, gold, silver, and bronze titles to different categories. This is based on the four types of trophies that users can earn while experiencing on the PlayStation console, with the dedicated platinum trophy unlocking all of the game’s other trophies. The PlayStation Blog has now revealed the full list of winners for 2022.
God of War Ragnarok won the Game of the Year award at the PlayStation Blog on both PS4 and PS5, with Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West and Stray receiving the gold, silver, and bronze titles in that order. The full list is an exact match for both PS4 and PS5, likely because all four games are intergenerational releases. God of War Ragnarok took top prize in all the categories it was nominated for, including plot, graphics, art direction, and soundtrack.
In addition, God of War Ragnarok also received a series of other noble awards at PlayStation Blog 2022.
In addition to the above, Thor from God of War Ragnarok won the award for best new character in 2022, with Odin also receiving the silver trophy. Malenia from the Elden Ring had to come in fourth as the cat from Stray won the gold medal. Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West often appear in the rest of the slots of different categories, with games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and The Last of Us Part 1 also winning several titles. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 took home the award for best active game of 2022, and Gran Turismo 7 took home the sports game category.
As the voting takes place on the official PlayStation blog, their own party games will likely dominate the various categories. Sony has released several exclusive titles this year, and God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7 all received high marks. It can be difficult for 2023 to match 2022 with Sony’s own content, although they recently confirmed that Marvel 2’s Spider-Man will be out in the fall.
