Bittersweet, this chapter may have a glimmer of hope as it hints that fan-favorite Nobara Kugisaki may not be dead after all and may return, reviving Jujutsu Kaisen’s iconic trio again before the finale.
While the series is no stranger to killing off characters regardless of their popularity, Chapter #236 is especially heartbreaking as several deceased characters appear, reminding viewers of mortality their tragedy. Gojo’s sudden death was made even more heartbreaking by his reunion with Geto, Nanami, Principal Yaga, and a few others in what seemed to be some kind of afterlife. That said, Nobara’s absence from the group that welcomed Gojo in the afterlife was obvious and gave fans hope that she might still be alive.
Gojo does not meet Nobara in the afterlife
Nobara was not among the people Gojo encountered in the afterlife in Chapter #236, suggesting that she may still be alive. Although not mentioned or referenced since the incident in Shibuya, fans of the series remained suspicious of Nobara’s death for a long time because her final moments were ambiguous. Furthermore, the series never explicitly confirmed her death, raising hopes that she may have been treated by Shoko off-screen and still recovering, which explains the silence of other characters in this regard as well as her absence from the Killing Game.
