Nintendo has announced Kirby’s Dream Buffet for the Nintendo Switch, which is a speedy yet equally adorable competitive game from baby Kirby.
Nintendo dropped a surprise announcement on its media channels, as Kirby’s Dream Buffet has been revealed for the Nintendo Switch. In 2022 came a beloved Kirby title – Kirby and Forgotten Land, so it was a surprise to see another Kirby game announced so soon. The Kirby series is best known for its exciting products, but it has sometimes forayed into other genres. These include fighting games like Kirby Fighters 2, racing games like Kirby’s Air Ride, and even Kirby’s Pinball Land on the Game Boy. Kirby’s brand and characters are quite flexible when it comes to bringing them into different genres and contexts.
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers got one more Kirby game this year, as the N64 app added Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards in May. 2022 is a big year for Kirby and only growing even bigger as the Nintendo YouTube channel announced Kirby’s Dream Buffet, a highly competitive yet fun game coming to the Nintendo eShop. Kirby’s Dream Buffer is due out in the summer of 2022, which means the game will be on the market soon.
Kirby’s Dream Buffet involves Kirby and other characters from the Kirby series racing on levels made from candies. The aim of the game is to eat as many strawberries as possible, with the winner being the one with the heaviest root. It looks like there are many platform-style modes in Kirby’s Dream Buffet, including mini battle arenas. Kirby characters will also have access to powers similar to Kirby’s Mouthful Mode.
It’s surprising that Nintendo decided to announce a new Kirby game right after the Nintendo Direct, even though that particular Nintendo Direct was focused on third-party studios. It will be interesting to find out the price of Kirby’s Dream Buffet, especially since there is no indication that this is a free-to-play title. 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the Kirby brand, and it will be interesting to see what else Nintendo has in store for the pink ball’s birthday.
