Madara became the only ninja able to fully unlock the Rinnegan by developing the Sharingan and linking Sasuke and Sasuke’s powers. The Rinnegan eyes grant various abilities, including mastery of all jutsu, access to Six Paths techniques, and controlling various puppet-like corpses. The Rinne Sharingan is a more powerful version of the Rinnegan obtained by absorbing chakra from each Nine-Tails Monster or eating the Chakra Fruit of the God Tree.
The Naruto series’ Rinnegan The eyes grant many divine abilities but most fans don’t understand how they actually work. Since Sasuke’s Sharingan was introduced early in Naruto’s storyline, the clan’s mysterious and powerful eyes continue to fascinate readers with the many abilities they bestow upon users such as Sasuke, Itachi, and Kakashi. However, after the timeskip of the series, Rinnegan eyes were introduced and they were superior to those shown on the Sharingan.
Pain’s Rinnegan eyes first appeared in the finale of Naruto Part 1 in chapter #238. The eyes gave Pain’s puppet master, Nagato, what he needed to become the leader of the deadly Akatsuki organization in the Naruto series and the ability to cement its fearsome reputation. However, the Rinnegan was not something Nagato was born with, but was planted in him as a child by the only shinobi to accidentally unlock the legendary eyes, Madara Sasuke. How the iconic Naruto villain achieved this and how his eyes work seems complicated, but some die-hard Naruto fans like Revold have helped shed some light on it.
By chance, Madara became the only Ninja to fully unlock the Rinnegan
After hiding in the shadows for decades, Madara successfully evolved his Sharingan into two Rinnegan before dying of old age. Chapter #606 of the Naruto manga provides a lot of information that Madara shares with Obitio to plan to use the Rinngan to end all wars by hypnotizing the entire planet. “The Rinnegan cannot be awakened without possessing both the power of the Sasuke clan and the Sasuke clan,” Madara explained. The legendary Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, directly assisted Sasuke in unlocking himself after being healed by Hashirama cells from Kabuto. However, the method Madara used took longer.
Looking at the requirements to unlock them, it’s clear why Rinnegan eyes are so rare and powerful. A shinobi must unlock the eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, which can only be obtained after traumatic experiences and eye transplants. EMS was then able to evolve into the Rinnegan after Sasuke’s clan’s powerful chakra successfully linked with the Senju chakra. Madara successfully accomplished this by implanting his opponent Hashirama Senju’s cells into his body to heal and increase his strength. However, he was unable to successfully link the two energies together until he was an old man whose body could not hope to fully utilize the power of his eyes – a power that could easily devastating or saving countless lives.
Everything Naruto’s Rinnegan Eyes can do
Pain’s attack on Konoha and his epic battle against Naruto demonstrated the Rinnegan’s many abilities. The user can easily master most spells from any of the six attribute types and access powerful Six Paths techniques. Each path contains unique abilities, used by controlling six separate puppet-like corpses. Because Nagato’s eyes are not his, his main body is not capable of using each of the Six Paths. This was the main reason why he had to use the bodies of dead shinobi who could focus on one path. These puppets are used to summon creatures (Animal Path), control souls (Human Path), control gravity (Deva Path), draw mechanized weapons (Con Asura path), absorbing energy (Preta Path) and healing everything (Naraka Path).
Nagato uses his own body to control the Outsider allowing him to use the black chakra receiver and revive the dead with his own life. However, because the Rinngegan was not originally his, his power is less than that of the Rinnegan. Their utter destruction is evident after Madara’s plan comes to fruition. He was fully revived and quickly destroyed the tired remnants of the Allied Shinobi Alliance with just one of his original eyes. After careful analysis, no Naruto character has shown the full potential of the Six Paths with only one Rinnegan eye. Each eye is capable of being responsible for three paths, while Heathen techniques can only be used with one Rinnegan.
After Madara effectively killed Naruto and Sasuke, he became even more powerful after becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki. He will only become more terrifying once he regains both of his naturally awakened Rinnegan eyes. After becoming whole and absorbing the Divine Tree, Madara officially became the second Sage of the Six Paths, seemingly multiplying the power of the Six Paths techniques. Once those conditions were met, a third eye appeared on Madara’s forehead that resembled a Rinnegan with many Sharingan-like swirls or “Tomoe” located on the lines. The God-like eye is called the Rinne Sharingan, which gives the user unique abilities compared to the traditional Rinnegan.
The Rinne Sharingan is above the Rinnegan
The Rinne Sharingan’s name comes from the fourth Naruto Databook. Technically, it still qualifies as a Rinnegan but is a higher level version. It manifests after a true Rinnegan user absorbs chakra from each Nine-Tails Beast or eats the chakra fruit of the Divine Tree. Madara, Kaguya, and Sasuke unlocked this eye, allowing access to techniques not included in the Rinnegan’s standard arsenal. This includes Infinite Tsukuyomi, as well as teleportation techniques such as Kaguya’s Dimensional Shift (Amenominaka) and Sasuke’s exchange ability (Amenotejikara). These skills consume a large amount of chakra, indicated by the number of Tomoe vortices that will be depleted in the user’s eyes after the Rinne Sharingan technique is used.
Sasuke’s Rinne Sharingan awakens after his eyes react to half of Hagoromo’s chakra bestowed upon him. His Time-Space abilities mimic those of Kaguya, further supporting the idea that those abilities are unique to RS and are a separate moveset from his arsenal. Rinnegan. Madara’s Limbo technique seems powerful enough to be considered an RS ability, but it’s a unique move that Madara gets by unlocking two of his own Rinnegan. It is an ability that allows him to create two invisible clones with a Rinnegan and four clones once he gets them both back.
The Rinnegan in the Naruto series continues to be difficult to explain because there are fewer examples of its use than the Sharingan. Madara was the only person to successfully combine Sasuke’s and Sasuke’s energies, effectively regenerating the Sage of the Six Paths’ chakra. This power overwhelmed the already impressive Sharingan.
