In 1996, Pokémon Eevee debuted and became more and more popular over time. This Normal-type Pokémon is loved thanks to its adorable appearance.
Besides, Eevee is also famous because it possesses a special evolution system called Eeveelution. No Pokémon evolves more uniquely than Eevee, as it can evolve into eight different Pokémon.
Evolutionary versions are continuously added in generations 2, 4, 6, making it the cover face in each change. This has made Eevee more familiar to many people.
Even though Eevee can already evolve into eight different Pokémon, fans have been waiting for a new evolution for years now. Now, a new leak reveals that such an evolution for Eevee was canceled behind the scenes.
The news emerged this week when Game Freak, the developer of the Pokémon games, suffered a major leak. Netizens discovered a 40GB folder containing never-before-seen Pokémon-related assets and documents, and they are believed to come from Game Freak. It didn't take long for fans to analyze the information, and there appeared a document detailing Eevee's Flying-type evolution that was scrapped.
Eevee's Flying evolution was removed in generation VII
“After being informed that this design was similar to a design created by a fan, we decided that the cost of designing [của Pokemon] will be very high,” the document reads. “Unless there is a game where Flying Eevee is the main character, or if they are of high value in the game, then it is not worth it. We can make that decision [một ngày nào đó]but not currently. We will pause until we can determine the significance of this new Pokémon.”
According to leaked information, the original design for the Flying Eevee still exists, but it has never been digitized. This artwork is in the Game Freak offices, so it's impossible to tell what they look like. If this leak is accurate, Game Freak originally wanted to include Eevee's new evolution in Generation VII, but the Pokémon was scrapped due to cost analysis.
In Generation VI, the world saw Pokémon bring the Fairy-type evolution of Eevee to the screen. Sylveon made a splash with its appearance, and so far, it's the latest evolution to join the Eevee line. Before Sylveon, Leafeon and Glaceon were introduced in Generation IV. So as you can see, it's been a while since Eevee got a new evolution.
Will we ever see a new Eevee evolution in Pokémon?
The latest leak about Pokémon Eevee has fans in an uproar. The fandom has been begging Game Freak for a new Eevee evolution since Generation VI ended, and they may have gotten that addition in Generation VII. Now we're facing Generation X, and we still haven't received any such update. Given the popularity of the Eevee line, the choice to remove a Flying-type evolution is puzzling, but Game Freak is confident in its choice to keep the character.
Luckily, the scrapped debut doesn't completely slam the door on Eevee as a whole. The document shows that Game Freak vaaxb is open to Flying-type Eevee, but its current design needs to be overhauled. Evolution will most likely appear in the future, and of course, there are still many more Eevee evolutions to explore. From Rock to Dragon, there are still many systems that Eevee has yet to reach. But with this latest leak, it looks like a Flying-type Eevee may be joining the Pokedex next.
