One Piece is currently in the Elbaf arc, where the Straw Hat pirates continue their grand adventure in the land of the Giants. The Elbaf Arc was filled with surprises and unforeseen events. Few fans expected that Oda would delve completely into God Valley through flashbacks to Loki. God Valley spans several chapters and has now reached its conclusion with the death of Rocks D. Xebec and the sinking of the island.
The God Valley event means a lot to many One Piece characters, and that also includes Monkey D. Dragon. As the son of Marine Hero Garp, Dragon played a pivotal role in God Valley and was one of the few Marines who tried to act properly. God Valley exposed Dragon to the brutality of the World Government and that even doing the right thing resulted in his imprisonment. This was the catalyst for him leaving the Navy to become a freedom fighter.
Monkey D. Dragon Leaves the Navy After Being Imprisoned for Saving People

Nearly 3 decades since the One Piece series debuted, Monkey D. Dragon is still one of the most mysterious characters in the series. The only thing fans really know about this man is that he heads the Revolutionary Army and is related to both Garp and Luffy.
Additionally, not much is known about his devil fruit abilities, bounty level, or early years of his life. Luckily, God Valley provided wonderful insight into that part of his life. Among the other Marines, Dragon stands out as the only one who truly wants to act righteously, seeking to help the slaves and children trapped in God Valley.
Sadly, this selflessness and humanity got him into trouble with the Marines and the World Government, costing him. After the God Valley Incident ended, Monkey D. Dragon was imprisoned. He was detained in an underground detention center at Navy Headquarters for disobeying orders.
However, luckily for Dragon, he was soon freed by his father Monkey D. Garp. After being released, Dragon decided to leave the Navy.
Experience At God Valley Completely Changed Monkey D. Dragon

Monkey D. Dragon is a completely different person after witnessing what happened at God Valley. He realizes that the World Government and the Navy are not good sides. The World Government has been preying on slaves, harming innocent people and children.
Monkey D. Dragon even witnessed a dying mother begging him to protect her children, all of which certainly had a strong impact on him. Furthermore, being imprisoned for doing the right thing helped push him away from the Navy.
Dragon’s relationship with the Marines, as well as with Garp, fell apart after these events. He decided to create a world where justice and equality truly existed.
From Freedom Fighters to Revolutionary Army

It’s unclear exactly what Dragon did after the God Valley Incident. However, it can be assumed that not long after leaving the Navy, he founded the resistance group known to fans as the Freedom Fighters, which works against the World Government. Up until 22 years ago in the One Piece story, he was still a Freedom Fighter as seen through the Vegapunk flashback.
The Freedom Fighters group evolved into Dragon’s current organization – the Revolutionary Army. Although the exact year of its founding is unknown, this event is said to have occurred approximately 21 years ago, shortly after the meeting between Dragon and Kuma.
The Revolutionary Army is currently the greatest threat facing the World Government. Just recently, they led an attack on Marijoa to liberate Kuma.
Fans are eager to see the true potential of Dragon and the Revolutionary Army in One Piece. It’s only a matter of time before Oda shifts the story’s focus to them, now that Marijoa has been attacked and Dragon is perhaps at the center of it all.
