Both the One Piece manga and anime are on hiatus for separate reasons. While the manga only recently started the Elbaf arc, the anime is still in the Egghead Island arc. Luffy and his crew will face much greater threats than CP0, which will put Vegapunk's life in danger. They planned to escape to Elbaf and the manga is now preparing to start the Straw Hats' new journey.
In addition to this vacation, Eiichiro Oda also took a few breaks due to health problems and the production of Netflix's live-action One Piece part 2. As the show's CEO, Oda was also very busy during the production of the first season.
The manga was paused several times because it was difficult for Oda to keep up with the weekly schedule. During the filming of the second season of One Piece live-action, the author went to Cape Town and met the cast. This is Oda's first time visiting the One Piece live-action set, so his schedule seems to be even more packed than before. Successive manga breaks and anime hiatuses resulted in the dullest period in One Piece's history.
One Piece's Elbaf arc got off to a slow start
The Elbaf arc is something fans have been waiting for since the Little Garden arc of the Arabasata Saga. After a long wait of more than two decades, the manga brought the Straw Hats to the Kingdom of Giants. This arc begins in chapter 1126, where the Straw Hats are briefly separated.
Road – the impersonator of the Sun God captured Luffy and some other members, but everyone escaped and met Prince Loki in chapter 1130. This chapter was released on October 20, 2025 before the hiatus. stop for three weeks. It's been three months since Prince Elbaf was officially introduced but the manga has only just released chapter 1135.
According to one fan, this is the driest period in One Piece history because the manga has never had so much time off in a three-month period.
One Piece anime will return in April
While the manga is on a number of hiatuses, the anime has been on hiatus since October 2024. Toei has released a remake of the Fish-Man Island Saga, but the Egghead arc is still on hold. The anime will return in April 2025 and will likely wrap up the arc this year. Toei made this suspension announcement to maintain the quality of the anime and ensure it does not exceed the manga's plot.
One Piece is known for its slow pace, adapting one or even less than one chapter in a single episode. However, the anime is expected to address this issue after its return as the manga had a fairly early start thanks to the hiatus.
2025 will also be an exciting year for live-action One Piece fans as the second season will be released in the second half of the year. Furthermore, while WIT Studio has yet to reveal new information about the remake, we can expect updates at some point this year.
