Studio Overkill Software and Starbreeze just kicked off the new year by revealing the Payday 3 logo along with the opening of the game’s Steam store page.
Payday 3 is currently in development with a confirmed release date in 2023.
A new teaser on Overkill Software’s YouTube channel has revealed the Payday 3 logo, which serves as one of the first big announcements of the new year. Along with the logo reveal, Payday 3’s Steam store page has been opened to waitlisted gamers ahead of the 2023 release, and more details about the game will be available soon.
While the trilogy that began with Payday: The Heist received mixed reviews in 2011, Payday 2 exploded in popularity and has been a staple of the cooperative shooter genre ever since. The Payday series puts players behind the masks of the Dallas, Hoxton, Houston, Chains, and Wolf gang members as they embark on a life of violent crime and armed robbery. Players must work together to plan and execute a variety of heists in locations ranging from simple bank heists to Vegas casino robberies, and with Payday 2’s stellar series of DLC has helped The game flourished for over a decade. With the announcement of Payday 3 in 2016, fans have been waiting quite a while for news of the third season.
A short trailer titled “A New Criminal Dawn” posted by Overkill Software shows Payday 3’s logo, a clean and simple design that omits the red or blue color from previous installments. The video covers New York City in Payday 3 while also showing the team looking out over the Brooklyn Bridge, potentially planning their next big job. The trailer claims that “this is the year of Payday 3”, again confirming the game’s 2023 release time. A specific release date has yet to be announced, but a Steam store page has been opened online allowing players to put it on a waiting list and keep an eye on future updates.
So far, only a few details about Payday 3 have been revealed, such as the setting of the game in modern tech New York. Payday 3’s modern setting will open up opportunities for all sorts of technologies, and ideas like cryptocurrencies and mass tracking will have a profound impact on the gameplay of the game. Hopefully a new set of tools will upgrade the gameplay even further thanks to hacking devices and other useful gadgets that will give players interesting choices during their experience.
Payday 3 will also switch to the Unreal Engine instead of using the Grin engine from previous games to bring the scale and detail of New York to the players in the most realistic way. Although very little gameplay information has been revealed so far, Payday 3 is one of the most anticipated games of 2023.
