Warning: Spoilers for Pokémon Horizons Episode 47
Summary
The new villains in Pokémon Horizons, the Explorers, lack Team Rocket's disguise and infiltration skills. Riko and Roy quickly see through Coral and Sidian's fake identities, setting the stage for a showdown. Coral and Sidian appear to be taking on a similar comedic role as Team Rocket, adding a new dynamic to the series.
Pokémon Horizon' new villains, the Explorers, have proven themselves to be far more dangerous and skilled than Team Rocket in every way – except one thing. As it turns out, Adventurers are incredibly bad at disguises and infiltration, which happens to be Jessie and James's specialty.
The new season of Pokémon Horizons, “Terastal Debut,” opened in the previous episode by having Riko, Roy, and Dot enroll in the Paldea region's Naranja Academy to learn how to use Terastallization. However, they weren't the only ones with this idea; the Explorer's two henchmen, Coral and Sidian, also tried to enroll in Naranja Academy under some ridiculous fake names (“Sandwich”, similar to her Japanese names “Sango” and “ Onigiri” or “rice ball”, similar to “Onyx” ).
Unfortunately for them, however, Riko and Roy immediately realized the pair belonged to the Adventurers and took precautions.
The adventurers' disguise skills are no match for Team Rocket
Coral was similarly seen through by Murdock in episode 47 as soon as he laid eyes on her, although so far the heroes have agreed not to let the duo get involved due to the fact that their disguises are ineffective, instead they choose to play along and learn. just what they're doing. Since Amethio recently learned how to use Terastallization, the other members of the Explorers may be trying to do the same, especially after their recent disastrous confrontation with Black Rayquaza.
Of course, in the classic Pokémon anime, Jessie and James are masters of disguise and often fool Ash and his friends with their costumes. Sometimes, they even get so caught up in role-playing that they forget what their original purpose was, such as when selling rights to Pokémon League tournaments. While the Team Rocket trio's disguises are often painfully obvious to the audience, often due to their extremely distinctive hair (or the presence of a talking Meowth), the disguises are always successful. work in the universe.
What's interesting is that Coral and Sidian seem to be taking on a similar role to Team Rocket in the classic anime. Like Jessie and James, they have a very unique dynamic, more suited to comedy than the rest of their evil team, albeit one quite different from Team Rocket. Coral in this episode went up against Riko in a cooking competition organized by gym leader Katy, only she didn't know what she was doing and created a mess, while Riko created a The cake is completely edible. Coral storms off after her defeat in a manner somewhat reminiscent of Jessie.
With Coral and Sidian seemingly playing a much larger role in this installment than they have played before, it will be interesting to see how similar this duo ends up being to Team Rocket. The absence of a Team Rocket-like group of goofballs is one of the main differences between Pokémon Horizon and the original anime, so maybe it's time to fix that by casting Coral and Sidian in that role.
