The manga about the novelist and niece will also have a live-action release on June 7
Kodoani.com – Pony Canyon announced on Friday that the manga Ikoku Nikki (Diary of a Strange Land) by Tomoko Yamashita will be adapted into an anime. The company also revealed the promotional teaser, visual teaser and main staff of the program.
Miyuki Oshiro (Durarara!!×2 Ketsu, Tsume Yūjin-Chō Go, To Your Eternity) will direct the anime at Shuka. Kohei Kiyasu (Run with the Wind, My Home Hero) is in charge of composing and writing the script, Kenji Hayama (Princess Jellyfish, Tiger & Bunny) is designing the characters, and Kensuke Ushio (Chainsaw Man, A Silent Voice, Heavenly Delusion) ) Compose music.

The manga focuses on novelist Makio Kōdai, 35, and her 15-year-old niece Asa, who live together under the same roof. Makio suddenly adopted Asa after Asa's parents, including Makio's older sister, passed away. The next day, Makio sobers up and remembers that she doesn't get along well with others. So their daily life begins, as Makio tries to get to know her roommate, while Asa tries to get to know an adult who never behaves like that.
Yamashita launched the manga in June 2017 in Shodensha's Feel Young magazine and ended it in June 2023. The manga's eleventh and final volume was published in August 2023. The manga has been nominated for The 28th annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Awards earlier this year. The manga also ranked fifth on the girls' list of the 2024 edition of Kono Manga ga Sugoi!, topping Da Vinci's 23rd annual “Book of the Year” list for manga in December, and was nominated for the 13th Manga Taisho Award in 2020.
The manga is inspiring a live-action film adaptation that will premiere in Japanese theaters on June 7.
