After Ubisoft confirmed that Skull and Bones has been postponed once again, a new 30-minute gameplay trailer has been released.
Skull and Bones is scheduled to release between 2023-2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Over 30 minutes of gameplay from Skull and Bones was shared in a new stream following the title’s recent delay. While the delay may be frustrating for everyone who knows about it, Ubisoft continues to work hard to complete Skull and Bones. However, it may not be the same for those who are anxiously awaiting Skull and Bones, which is why Ubisoft has decided to share an insight into the experience of the game in a video.
Ubisoft has previously said that Skull and Bones is “not a story-driven game,” although it does feature narrative pieces to help advance the player’s personal story. Still, as a story with a historical bias, Skull and Bones has a rich setting and structure built around the action in the game. After all, players are pirates sailing the oceans in the world of Skull and Bones. For multiplayer, without the content elements, it’s hard to fully immerse yourself in a game.
The Ubisoft livestream for Skull and Bones is led by content director Joel Janisse, who guides players through one of the Investigations. Investigations are like quests in other games, requiring the player to complete steps to continue, and ultimately rewarding the player for completion. The quest shown in the video is called “Hunt for the Crown of Ukuta” and revolves around the hunt for a deposed king named Mwenye who ran away with Ukuta’s Royal Crown.
In the video of Skull and Bones, a series of gameplay is introduced. That includes having the player perform a Plunder attack on an outpost to receive clues about their mission, which includes attacking the outpost itself and its defenses, and lengthy journey sequences. by ship, search for shipwrecks and dig for treasure. It’s a true pirate adventure that explores the world and story of Skull and Bones and may just be the first chapter in the broader experience the game has to offer.
The broader story is hinted at through Skull and Bones’ gameplay and through Janisse’s comments regarding a notorious pirate. A pirate is described as a person seeking to fight against the great corporations of Skull and Bones, who pursues true freedom and who has a treasure worth finding. Odds are there’s more to this story for players to discover when Skull and Bones comes out.
However, as noted before, Skull and Bones is more of an online multiplayer experience than a story-driven game. On Investigation, a message pops up stating that this is only one of seven available content. So while there’s some plot twist in Skull and Bones, it’s not the whole game. Players will go through Investigation to delve deeper into the broader development systems and gameplay that could ultimately make Skull and Bones a game worth playing for a long time.
