Warning: SPOILERS chapter #246 of Jujutsu Kaisen
Heroes of Jujutsu Kaisen has been struggling ever since Satoru Gojo was deposed by the villain Sukuna, but it appears that the “honored one” replacement is not Yuji as fans expected but another, less likely jujutsu mage: Hiromi Higuruma.
In chapter #246 of Jujutsu Kaisen, a group of witches are attempting to take down Sukuna after he dispatches both Gojo and Hajime Kashimo respectively. Their strategy revolves around Hiromi Higuruma’s cursed technique, Judgeman. Even though the first game was a failure, fans learned something valuable in the process.
It seems that even the Curse King Sukuna, the most powerful witch and curse to ever exist on Earth, recognized Higuruma’s talent, even comparing him to Gojo, the only opponent to ever receive Sukuna’s respect.
Higuruma’s raw talent puts him on par with Gojo
Higuruma is a relatively new character in the series, one of many introduced in the controversial Killing Game arc. He is a former defense attorney who abandoned his profession when the unjust justice system declared his most recent client guilty despite the evidence in his favor. At the same time, Higuruma awakens as a jujutsu witch due to Kenjaku using Remote Idle Transformation to begin his Killing Game. As a result, Higuruma could only use the cursed energy for less than two months.that’s why Sukuna’s comparison of him to Gojo is so impressive.
While Higuruma certainly possesses a powerful cursed technique, one that allows him to instantly die or defeat his opponents, this is not very different from any of his range expansions. any other high level witch where attacks cannot be avoided. In fact, Higuruma cannot even use the reverse curse technique to heal his wounds, as Yuji points out in this chapter, meaning he is at a major disadvantage in battle. However, as Sukuna clearly saw, Higuruma’s greatest asset lies in his innate talent in using cursed energythis is actually also an attribute of Satoru Gojo.
Jujutsu Kaisen doesn’t focus as much on the concept of “success through effort” as many other shounen series do. Instead, things like innate talents and tendencies are key to its system of power and ranking. For example, Sukuna and Gojo shared the extreme loneliness that comes from being the strongest thanks to their natural talents, and even Yuji was born with (barely explained) physical abilities. ethereal qualities and attitudes towards cursed energy. The fact that Higuruma also has that tendency puts him on the same level as Gojo and Sukuna, the “honored ones.”
Higuruma’s inexperience will likely be his downfall
In chapter #246, Higuruma showed he was able to use Domain Amplification, which left Sukuna spellbound. The statement that Higuruma possesses “the same talent as Satoru Gojo” must have shocked fans, but this does not mean that Higuruma is actually on the same level. As he admits in this chapter, Higuruma lacks actual combat experience. No matter how raw a person’s talent and attitude is, it still takes practice to maximize the potential of the cursed energy, and few practice more than the thousand-year-old Sukuna. It would certainly be tragic if Jujutsu Kaisen declaring Higuruma to be the new Gojo only for him to die a few chapters later, but it’s exactly the kind of shocking turn of events that fans of the series have become accustomed to.
