The couple quickly ran to the fire and joined the rescue while walking the streets of Spain on their honeymoon.
Couple Doran Smith and David Squillate (living in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA) have just performed their late honeymoon after 2 years of marriage because of the pandemic. The couple’s travel destination is Barcelona, Spain.
While walking on the street, the couple discovered that a nearby building suddenly caught on fire, the entire inside was on fire. Many people ran out in panic.
Doran says:
“My husband and I saw a fire in the street, many people ran and shouted that there was a fire.”
But this couple did not run away, they rushed into the fire to help rescue those still trapped. It turned out that the building that caught fire was a kindergarten, at the time there were about 20 children sleeping soundly inside. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to where the children were sleeping, the couple quickly placed them in the crib and pushed them out to safety.
Many people around also rushed to the rescue with the American couple, although they did not know English, everyone gave their best support to Doran and David. Everyone quickly moved the children away from the fire. The primary cause was determined to be an electrical short.
David said, with the help of many people, it took the couple more than 10 minutes to move all the children away.
“Everything happened pretty quickly,” David said.
Firefighters arrived shortly after and put out the fire, and the couple Doran and David laughed because their walk must have been postponed, fortunately no children were seriously injured.
The story was reported by local media, with many praising the couple’s bravery and quick wits. They also received many compliments on social networks.
After the incident, David shared that he used to be a volunteer firefighter, which is also the job his father and grandfather used to do so he couldn’t run away when he saw a fire.
