One Piece Episode 1100 introduces the fight between Luffy and Lucci in Gear 5
Episode 1100 chronicles the dramatic confrontation between Monkey D. Luffy and Rob Lucci, an elite assassin working with the World Government's intelligence group, Cipher Pol. Sakazuki, who also works at Navy headquarters, learns of Luffy's location on Egghead and his relationship with Dr. Vegapunk, the scientific mastermind behind the Void Century investigation. When Lucci learned of this, he set out for Egghead to confront Luffy, despite being warned against doing so by his fellow CP0 members. This leads to a great confrontation, as both sides enter their ultimate Awakened state. Lucci sets out to find out firsthand why Luffy's Gear 5 form is so powerful.
One Piece anime fans got their first look at Luffy's famous Gear 5 form in One Piece Film: Red before witnessing him in his full glory in episodes 1071-1072 of series. Gear 5 Luffy possesses incredible strength and endurance, allowing him to absorb the full force of a normally debilitating attack while escaping relatively unscathed. Additionally, the Hito Hito no Mi greatly increases the flexibility of Luffy's rubber body, leading to some absurd transformations on the battlefield. One Piece author Eiichiro Oda admitted to being inspired by American animated films like Tom & Jerry to give the character an attractive cartoon appearance. “I drew this because I wanted to have fun,” Oda once explained.

One Piece's Eiichiro Oda continues on hiatus until the release of Chapter 1112
While Toei Animation is still releasing One Piece episodes on a regular basis, Oda recently announced that he will be taking a three-week hiatus from the One Piece manga to re-evaluate his health. According to Oda, the decision was made following the sudden death of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, who passed away after suffering an acute subdural hematoma on March 1. “I was too worried for my health…it's not an illness, but I think I want to rest to take care of myself,” Oda said. In the past, the cartoonist has repeatedly mentioned his struggles with high blood pressure and chronic lack of sleep. Weekly publication of One Piece will resume on April 22.
