Studio SHAFT returns to adapt the books Off Season and Monster Season in NisiOisin's Monogatari series. The initial announcement of the anime stated that it would go into “production” this year.
Akio Watanabe drew the main image below. The slogan reads: “Youth continues into the past and future.”
Aniplex introduced the new work on two different websites earlier this year under the codenames “O” and “M.”
NisiOisin's novel series began with the two-volume story Bakemonogatari in 2006, and it was the basis for the first anime adaptation of the novel in 2009. The “final season” of the novel series ended with Zoku Owarimonogatari in September 2014, but it included a trailer for “Monogatari Series, Next Season Tsugimonogatari.”
The four “Off Season” volumes — Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari and Mussubimonogatari — were published in October 2015, January 2016, July 2016 and January 2017, respectively. The volumes tell a series of short stories set set at different points throughout the series.
The “Monster Season” novel series debuted with the Shinobumonogatari novel in July 2017. Other novels in this season include Yoimonogatari, Amarimonogatari, Ōgimonogatari, and the two-volume novel Shinomonogatari, published in August 2021. The novel is a sequel to the franchise, taking place in a university.
The latest novel in the series is Ikusamonogatari, published in May 2023.
