10 “The pinnacle of kindness”
Season 2, Episode 21
Episode #21, “The Crest of Kindness,” takes inspiration from the previous episode, which saw Veemon evolve into Magnamon to fight Kimeramon. When Wormmon can no longer watch his comrades slide down the path of villainy, he sacrifices himself to give Magnamon the power needed to defeat Kimeramon and Ken. Unable to cope with loss, The Digimon Emperor vows to erase the entire Digital World reboot and begin his conquest anew. However, as the DigiDestined helps Ken realize that Digimon deserve respect and kindness, he is able to confront and overcome his self-loathing.
Ken's rejection of the evil force that's been influencing him nearly halfway through the season is a pivotal moment in Adventure 02. The DigiDestined forgive their old enemy and beg him to join their team, but Ken runs away, overwhelmed to be chosen by the Crest of Kindness. The episode wraps up the main arc and clears the way for the reveal of a new villain, a staple in the Digimon franchise.
9 “WarGreymon Duel”
Season 2, Episode 46
While the DigiDestined continued to monitor the kidnapped Arukenimon children, the Dark Spores within began to bloom. Meanwhile, BlackWarGreymon brutally confronts Oikawa, who reveals that he converted his DNA into digital code to create him, along with Arukenimon and Mummymon. Tai's Agumon evolves into WarGreymon, hoping to say something to his shadow counterpart, but the ensuing battle only causes more destruction in the real world.
Episode 46, “Duel of the WarGreymon” is a classic Digimon episode, complete with exciting battles, new digitized forms, and deep meditations on the meaning of life. After a duel in the skies above Mount Fuji between WarGreymon and Imperialdramon, Wormmon begs BlackWarGreymon not to wallow in self-pity and try to do something meaningful with your life. The questions about the purpose of life and the meaning of existence presented in this episode are very intriguing concepts for an anime about kids with keys and their virtual pets.
8 “Oikawa's Shame”
Season 2, Episode 48
Episode #48, “Oikawa's Shame”, reveals the truth behind Oikawa and his plan to destroy the Digital World: it's always Myotismon. The season one villain returns, acting as a parasite in Oikawa's body since the death of his best friend, Cody's father Hiroki. Myotismon transformed Oikawa's grief and desperation to visit the Digital World into a suitable host body to carry out his misdeeds until he was strong enough to digest into MaloMyotismon.
The revelation that Oikawa is just a proxy for another villain isn't surprising, but the backstory he tells when he's free is commendable for its beauty. The purple-cloaked villain's storyline is all about grief and the loss of one's dreams, and it ends with him sacrificing himself to protect the Digital World he wanted to destroy. It's a bittersweet ending for a villain who was never meant to be a grown man without a Digimon partner, but more importantly, it shows the fate Ken will face if he does not redeem himself.
7 “The Origin of Evil”

The conversation between Ken's parents at the hospital bed was one of the sweetest and most heartfelt moments in the series hitherto. Ken's admission that they had failed as parents and his eventual forgiveness are reminiscent of the touching conversation between Izzy and his parents in part one of the show. When Ken and Wormmon's baby forms are reunited, they vow to become true partners and embrace their DigiDestiny.
6 “Old Enemies Return”
Season 2, Episode 19
The Digimon Emperor, Ken, finds Devimon's data in the Dark Whirlpool, the final piece to complete Kimeramon, a Digimon chimera composed of the strongest parts of past heroes and villains. TK punched Ken in the face and retreated with his friends.
Poor Ken is more isolated and paranoid than ever, and even his Digimon partner, Wormmon, can't reason with him. Although a mysterious voice advises Ken that he cannot control the powers of darkness, Ken's obsession with enslaving the Digital World continues to cloud his judgment and ignore the warning. . The plot of the episode is simple but it hits the mark a turning point for both Ken and TKas they make strategic decisions that promote the development of their character, for better or for worse.
5 “Kyoto Dragon”

Still strong, the children attempt to move the final Fate Stone with their relics, which will summon Azulongmon, the worthy opponent BlackWarGreymon seeks. Azulongmon is a Holy Dragon Digimon and one of the best designed Digimon in the series. Before the two can fight, Arukenimon and Mummymon appear and reveal that they were the ones who turned Ken into the Digimon Emperor, with the goal of unbalancing the Digital World and destroying it.
Azulongmon is full of knowledge and brings it to DigiDestined a useful exhibition dump about their journey ahead, the new evolved forms they have unlocked, and the warning that Arukenimon and Mummymon are not their true enemies. Finally, understanding that all creatures have a purpose, regardless of the circumstances that created them, BlackWarGreymon flies off to find his purpose. The episode is rewarding for the answers it provides to season-long questions, as well as for its stakes for the Adventure 02 finale.
4 “Dark Gate”
Season 2, Episode 45
With the Dark Spore plot revealed in the previous episode, the DigiDestined now know that the evil human, Oikawa, plans to enslave the kidnapped children just like he did to the Digimon Emperor. They battled Daemon in the real world and were only able to banish him to the Digital World by exploiting their darkest fears to open the Dark Portal. With Daemon is temporarily defeatedOikawa releases the kidnapped children and retreats in the getaway car driven by Mummymon and Arukenimon.
The finale of Adventure 02 begins in this episode, with Oikawa's plan to destroy the DigiDestined and rule the Digital World revealed. Adding a layer of guilt to Ken's already damaged soul, Oikawa's army of evil children idolize the power the Digimon Emporer once held. However, that guilt has been proven the fuel needed to banish the Daemon into the Black Ocean and close the gate.
3 “Ultimate Anti-Hero”
Season 2, Episode 30
The DigiDestined are busy cleaning up the Digimon Emporer Control Rings, which are scattered across the landscape of the Digital World and restricting digitization. Ken returns to his friends and confronts BlackWarGreymon with the DNA Digivolved, Paildramon, but they are still overwhelmed. With his partner Digimon defeated, BlackWarGreymon betrays his creator and flies off in search of a worthy opponent.
This episode marks the point where Adventure 02's plot gets complicated. New enemies are introduced with little explanation, as are BlackWargreymon, and more and more Digimon are added to the roster as the heroes learn new techniques. There's a lot to balance, and some plot threads sadly fall flat without a conclusion. Ignoring the overarching plot issues, the episode is notable for its touching subplot regarding Ken's difficulty integrating into the DigiDestined.
2 “The Fate of BlackWarGreymon”
Season 2, Episode 47
Cody's grandfather reveals that his son Hiroki and the villain Oikawa were once close friends and that they met the Digital World when they were boys. Meanwhile, the Darkness Spores begin to bloom inside one of the kidnapped children and Ken promises to save her from the same pain as the Digimon Emporer. However, he fails to rescue her and Oikawa absorbs dark energy from the flower.
Grandpa arrives and breaks into Oikawa. The peace is short-lived when BlackWarGreymon appears to wage war. Oikawa seriously injures the Dark Digimon and flees with the Dark Flower. BlackWarGreymon realized his purpose in life could be achieved by sacrificing his remaining energy closes the gate to the Digital World, bringing stability to the real world. It's a beautiful ending to the story of a tortured character.
1 “The Last Temptation of the DigiDestined”
Season 2, Episode 49
Davis and ExVeemon attack MaloMyotismon, who retaliates with his Psycho Illusion move, which Engage the DigiDestined in the dreams of their greatest desires. Freed from all worries and doubts, Davis was unaffected by MaloMyotismon's attack and was able to free his friends one by one. Returning to the dimension between the real world and the Digital world, the DigiDestined focus their agency on their digits, allowing their Digimon to simultaneously evolve into multiple forms.
It's interesting that the show takes advantage of all the awesome Digimon forms introduced in Adventure 02 by having them appear all at once in the penultimate episode. Emotional moments are as numerous as the Digimon forms, with a heartbreaking scene involves Cody and his deceased father reuniting in a dream. Cody is often the most downtrodden person in DigiDestined, so it's nice to see him steal the spotlight and hold his father's hand one last time.
