Kodoani.com – Episode 13 of the anime adaptation of the short story “5-Year Button” in the manga Minna no Tonio-chan by Sōta Sugahara will be released on September 30 at 10:30 p.m. (Japan time) on Tokyo MX and other stations.
The episode will consist of two short stories:
“AI Emo-kun”: The story is about Tonio, Jaibiand from Sune when they found an AI named Emocapable of calculating the optimal way to clean a room. Over time, Emo begins to develop strange feelings towards the main characters while living with them.
“The 5th Button”: The story revolves around a special button. When pressed, the user will receive one million yen but be transported to the fifth dimension.
The anime's main cast will return, including:
Masako Nozawa in the role Tonio
Suzuka Mimori in the role Jaibi
Naomi Ozora in the role from Sune
Marika Kono in the role Inoue-hakase
Besides, Mahana Yamasaki will participate in dubbing the character Emo-kun.
The anime premiered in July 2022 with 12 episodes, revolving around a special button. When pressed, the user will receive one million yen but must spend 500 million years alone in an empty space. After that, they will return to the time before pressing the button and forget about that time. The plot focuses on three siblings – Tonio (5 years old), Jaibi (14 years old), and from Sune (17 years old) – needs money to pay for his father's hospital bills.
Sōta Sugahara not only created the story but also took on the roles of director, screenwriter, character designer, and producer. He continues to contribute to this new episode. The anime also features the participation of virtual YouTubers with the opening theme. “TIME” do Size performance and ending song “Tick-Tock Boy” belong to RIM.
Story “5-Year Button” has become a widely discussed philosophical topic in Japan since its release, thanks to this thought experiment involving the button.
