Gambit (played by Channing Tatum) is probably one of the most surprising and impressive cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine. Therefore, the fate of this character has always been a hot topic of discussion in the fan community, especially when the film's credits show that Gambit still survived after the monster Alioth swept through Cassandra Nova's base.
Recently, Ryan Reynolds, the actor who plays Wade Wilson, officially spoke up to answer this question with a video that is said to be the cut credit of Deadpool & Wolverine. This video focuses entirely on Gambit, the mutant who is still safe after the battle with Cassandra Nova's army in The Void. Not only that, Gambit also seems to escape this chaotic space thanks to a portal created by a mysterious character.
Deadpool & Wolverine's cut credits show Gambit is still alive and seemingly escaped from The Void – Video: Ryan Reynolds.
On his personal Instagram, Ryan Reynolds also confirmed that this cut credit scene is actually still used in the official premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, through one of the monitors at TVA headquarters. However, up to now, Marvel Studios has not made any official confirmation regarding the fate of Gambit, as well as future projects for this character.
For now, Gambit can still return in the two upcoming Avengers films – Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. This is considered the end of the Multiverse Saga, and also the last chance for Marvel Studios to continue to bring a grand cameo party like they did with Deadpool & Wolverine. Gambit, along with many superheroes and super villains in previous Marvel film projects, will all have the opportunity to return to participate in the most epic multiverse war.
Channing Tatum once missed out on the role of Gambit when the solo film project for this character in the X-Men universe was canceled. Therefore, his cameo role in Deadpool & Wolverine can be considered a “consolation gift” that Marvel Studios gave to the actor. However, with the new video revealed by Ryan Reynolds, it can be seen that this studio has more calculations for Channing, instead of just a role to please fans.
It's likely that Marvel Studios intentionally removed the credits surrounding Gambit because they wanted to see how well the audience would accept the character. Now that Channing Tatum's character is getting a lot of love from fans, Marvel can confidently reveal the pre-prepared credits, and Gambit's future in the MCU is more open than ever. Some sources say that after the Multiverse Saga ends, Marvel will explore the mutants in the Mutant Saga more deeply, and Gambit has a chance to debut with the new X-Men of the MCU.
