Jujutsu Kaisen has spent the last few chapters wrapping up loose ends before the series ends later this month, and the latest chapter of the series is revealing the fall of the top families in Jujutsu society. The world of Jujutsu Sorcery in Jujutsu Kaisen has always been one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the entire series.
Now that the war against Sukuna is over, it's time for Yuji Itadori and the surviving sorcerers to return to normal, as they recover from everything that happened in such a status quo-shattering war.
The world of Jujutsu Kaisen continues to change after everything that happened to Sukuna, and it even started before that with the events of the Shibuya Incident and the Death Return Game. But as the world of Jujutsu continues to be shaken, so do the previous ruling families. The latest chapter reveals that there will be a battle for dominance between the Gojo and Kamo families, and it looks like it will all come crashing down.
What happens in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 269?
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 269 begins after the fight with Sukuna, as the surviving mages are analyzing everything that happened. Each of them blames themselves for whether or not they participated in the fight, but at the end of the day, they are still glad to be alive.
Then there is the further explanation that more sorcerers could have survived, if not for another family monopolizing the Simple Domain for themselves. They monopolized it through a binding Oath called the New Sound.
The New Yin is a contract condition that prevents non-sectarians from using the Simple Domain, as it is a family contract. The New Yin was created to prevent this spell from leaking into the hands of cursers, meaning that no other curser outside of that family can learn it.
Because of this, there was actually a secret plan that was being carried out during the chaos with Sukuna. While the others were fighting, Mei Mei tracked down the leader of the mysterious clan and assassinated him. This was to make Kusakabe the new leader of the clan, allowing the Oath of Bond to be removed. Mei Mei also had two other reasons for doing all of this. One was because the head of the clan intended to harm her younger brother. The other was so that she could take advantage of it financially later.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Who are the three great clans?
Jujutsu Kaisen previously explained that the top three clans in the Jujutsu world were the Zenin, Gojo, and Kamo clans. With Maki destroying the Zenin clan after the Shibuya Incident, only the Gojo and Kamo clans remained. There was a tease in chapter 269 that these clans would eventually collapse due to this change (and even more so after Gojo's death, as it would leave a power vacuum).
And that mysterious clan tried to take advantage of all of this to rise to the top of the Jujutsu world, by increasing the number of disciples and taking over the magic world.
But as we've also seen from Gojo eliminating the top brass before fighting Sukuna, it really doesn't matter who sits at the top of Jujutsu society anymore. That's something that hasn't really been made clear in any significant way over the course of the series, and likely won't play any major role with only two chapters left.
The fall of these families will be just another way for the old to make way for the new in a new era. That means there will be a brighter future for those who have survived it all.
