Based on the light novel series by Natsume Akatsuki and Kurone Mishima, the first season of KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! first aired in 2016. While the second season of this fun fantasy and Isekai parody anime premiered less than a year after Season 1 ended, fans had to wait seven years for Season 3. Luckily, they won't have to wait that long for their next adventure with Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness.
KonoSuba Season 3 aired from April 10, 2024 to June 19, 2024. As of September 15, 2024, KonoSuba Season 3 fans will have a newly announced OVA to look forward to. Information about the OVA is currently very limited as it is unknown how many episodes it will have and which animation studio will produce it.
The announcement of the Konosuba Season 3 OVA was made during the Kono Subarashii ni Shukufuku wo! Public Record Special, a live radio broadcast. The announcement was accompanied by a tweet from the official Konosuba X (formerly Twitter) account, which did not reveal any further details.
KonoSuba team has been working hard
One of the biggest questions on fans' minds is which animation studio will be animating the OVA. While it's safe to assume that the OVA will adapt chapters of the light novels set after KonoSuba Season 3, and Jun Fukushima, Sora Amamiya, Rie Takahashi, and Ai Kayano have been confirmed to reprise their respective roles as Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness, it's unclear whether Studio Drive will be animating the OVA.
While Studio Drive is animating Season 3, they are not the first animators to work on KonoSuba. Previously, the first two seasons were animated by Studio Deen, and the theatrical film of the series, KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! Legend of Crimson, was produced by JC Staff. KonoSuba However, Part 3 is not the first time Studio Drive has worked on this project as they also produced KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!an adaptation of the spin-off light novel series. The series aired from April 6, 2023 to June 22, 2023.
The announcement for the KonoSuba Season 3 OVA can be viewed on YouTube. Uploaded by Kadokawa, one of the producers of the series, the video is about 40 minutes long and features all four members of the main voice cast. The announcement can be found between the 33rd and 34th minute marks.
